So safety cameras means speed plus red light, oh goody.

I see they've included a fair few roads that i use as well

Yeah it's great isn't it.

So I'm to assume there's lots of accidents happening at Red Light Camera intersections specifically because people are speeding up to avoid the camera?

Anyone know the statistics?

Has anyone heard a "I saw this accident caused because a guy sped up to get through a red light....."?

And now we will have the "rear-end crash" scenario at traffic lights because the cages will throw out the anchor as soon as they see a yellow.

that's what we though would happen down here when the red-light/speed cameras were introduced a few years ago........

but it didn't pan out like that at all..............most drivers just slow down heading into these intersections ( say from normal speed of 95-100 kmh) to about 80kmh........and they can then either make a stop before the red OK, or just plough through the amber light, under or at the speed limit, and no flash from the camera.

You only get pinched by these if the light is actually 'red', not amber....and it does not flash at the instant the lights change either, it flashes about 1 to 1.5 seconds later.....

Very few incidents of rear-enders down here as a result of the intro of these style of cameras......but you need the local knowledge of where they are situated ( or a GPS that 'beeps' as you approach an intersection fitted with safety cams) - nobjockeys from out of the area will be the ones getting pinged.....

Thanks, Gos ........ was there a slight increase (rear-enders) immediately after intro or did it transition ok ?

And are the ACT cameras sign-posted before you get to them, as in NSW ?

no increase in rear-ender stats at all, as far as I know. Yep, all the 'safety' cameras are sign-posted ( Safety Camera Ahead ). And yet people still speed through them......

A lot of ACT drivers scare me...most arterial roads are 80kph...everyone does 90-100 in the dry but if it's wet then it's either 120 or 60 and it's not the good drivers doing 120 I can tell you.

So do they detect speeding all the time or only when running a red/amber light or what's the deal?

I go through at least one of these every day, I've probably lost my license already if they're active!!!
