Now you need to understand if you don't own a trailer, that rego is just over $50 a year and they don't need to get checked for rego or get a pink or green slip either. So, the only difference between this trailer being regoed or not is the $50 payment over the Internet, which I could easily do when I got home. How the fuck can you justify a five hundred dollar fine for something being three days out of date of a fifty dollar registration? There is NO safety message that could possibly be linked to this fine what-so-ever. The trailer does not get checked for rego and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it when he checked over it so what did issuing me such a large fine achieve?
Now before you blokes that work in this industry start on about the attitude test, I was extremely polite at all times and even controlled my anger after the fine was issued. If this is not pure revenue raising then I am not here! The bureaucracy of this state's traffic laws and the way they are policed is ridiculous. The law is supposed to be there to protect people, not cause them misery at every possible oportunity.
The officer in question was young, had to be in his twenties, and seemed a little unsure of himself the way he went about his duties. If I had to guess I would say he has not been highway patrol for long. Is this how they establish themselves amongst their peers at work by racking up a huge quota of fines issued or was he just on a power trip? Honestly, how could he feel good about himself choosing to fuck up someones holidays rather than using discretion and issuing a reminder/warning. What good did he possibly do by issuing such a substantial fine?
