Dunno about the Kylin brand - but my RJays was only $85.
Mind you I would've bought something more expensive if I could afford it at the time (and risk leaving it at the station), but as has been mentioned many a time price doesn't necessarily equal safety.

Considering the some of the open face helmets (I swear some of them would be better of with an ice cream container) I have seen used these are mile in front of them, you would have to question the quality of a $50 lid though.

I guess one size fits all? Good luck guessing what size to get as between brands there is a big difference in sizing.

Why? Once a helmet is safety rated the only thing that gets better is the comfort. How safe do you want your brain box to be in a crash? Safe enough so it survives when the rest of you is toast? Not for me thanks. I like my wheels front and back, not one either side of me. ;)
I have a <$100 helmet here thats every bit as 'safe' as the $250 and the $750 ones I own - it just isn't as comfortable.

Then again, I have Chinese brake discs on my bike and they're probably going to explode because they were cheap - so what would I know? :P

Really, it isn't as bad as one might think. It is similar in design to my RJays GP1 and the lining is quite plush. The visor fits and operates properly and the overall finish is pretty reasonable.

The only complaint I have is the sizing. I'm not quite sure where they measure the circumference, but it would be more comfortable if I had a pointy head.
Actually, when HM gets home I'll try it on his little round head. It seems to be about the same fit as his old RXT Orbit - which cost twice as much. :P

I was in a local bike shop the other day,the Shoei helmet rep was there.I asked her about the new Shoei X12 helmet which has been released in the U.S. She told me that the RRP was going to be $1299. Available Dec,I said they can be had in the U.S.for $599U.S.

She then went on in great detail to tell me that the Australian standards helmets that Shoei produce have a thicker shell than those for the U.S. to meet our higher standards.I asked her so the Australian helmet would weigh more then as it was thicker. She said yes a little. She then said (don't laugh) Shoei have a production run two days a month soley for the Australian Market where they make thicker shell sizes. bs.gif I said i have two exactly the same Shoei's one Au and one from the U.S. and they weigh exactly the same, how could she explain that? Needless to say she couldn't.

So a Shoei x12 from the U.S. without the Aus standards sticker won't be as good as the one here for $49.95 simple really

I have done a bit of reading about these 'standards' over the last few days and a lot of it seems to be about protecting reputations and markets than about protecting our heads.
