I don't know, I see it differently.
Most people will be on restrictions for at least 15 months, more than likely about 18-24 months and younger riders a lot longer still.
That's a long time to have one bike, as even when I have my full license I reckon I'll be buying a new bike every 24-36 months and on restrictions we're talking about a 250. So, assuming you have the doe, and you've already bought the correct gear, have had advanced training or plan on doing it, I'd spend the money on doing up the bike. Make it look better, sound better, maybe perform a tiny little bit better, it'll at the very least make you feel better riding it and quite possibly get a fair % of your money back when selling it anyway. As LAMS bikes hold their value a lot better than bigger bikes, and there's always a new learner coming up who wants a trick looking bike anyway, so will pay more for a 250 with mods than the same bike without. Lets say you have the bike for 2 years, and including the money you spent on it, when selling it you lose ~2k. It's cost you 1k a year to have that bike. I'm happy with that. If I can get the same sort of returns/losses when I have my bigger bike I'll be stoked.
Not only that, but when you get a bigger bike when off restrictions, you may even decide to keep the 250 as a commuter. Cheaper on fuel/more economical to use to get to and from work, cheaper insurance and rego and what not.
I reckon if you have the doe, get some work done to the bike, an exhaust, cowl, double bubble screen, clip ons and rear sets on the Ninja 250R make it look like a whole new bike.

Yeah maybe Sound doesnt always = fun you fool. lol All the pipes sound the same Blue Flame, Vance, Yoshi. Might look the part you might feel special but they all sound like a cage with a sports tip. Not going to waste money on a can that sounds like a shit box, If it aint broke than dont fix it. Plus the standard pipe when polished up looks trik, would rather put the money away for my zx10 in a year, Trade it in dont want 2 bikes as i only have two arms and two legs. I already have good leather jacket M2R boots and good leather gloves Winter and Summer, 2 helmets Tinted and Clear, Put crash knobs on it and K&N Filter New tyres and thats it, Just maintanence services and nothing else. But Thats Me ,

I replaced mine with an F1 pipe about a month or so ago i love the sound of it but for me it was mainly cosmetic my stocky had damage from an ex so i wanted to get rid of it & therefore bought this full system & when i first heard it i near creamed myself the sound difference is phenomenal & it just suits the bike now

The stock can is ugly as all fcuk. There's no way you can call it trick.

The lousy thousand bucks I'll spend on my Ninja 250R will in no way affect me when it comes time to buy a gixxer 750 or R1. Or by the time I got my fulls who knows what I'll want. In all probability I'll get most of my doe back anyway.

If ya want a cheap mod to make the 2Fiddy louder (if ya worried about cagers) , nothing a steel rod and a hammer wont fix!!
Jam it down the pipe and give it a good old whack.
It'll knock a hole in the baffle and make it sound louder.
The best thing about this is only takes about 2 minutes and it's free!!

old thread i know but I couldnt help pressing submitt after I put my opinion in.
As much as I hate to say it, Clay rasies some good points when considering how long you need to be on your L's and P's for these days. Nothing wrong with wanting to make our pride and joy look the part (we all do it in some degree
). I also agree that some people may keep there 250 as a commuter after getting their full licence , esp if they do lots OK communting KM's as the 250 is cheaper on everything e.g. rego, serivicing , tyres, petrol etc.
As long as you can admitt your not actually chasing power gains and based on the above arguement I say (to quote mike-s) "more power to ya".
Oh and not all pipes sound the same on these 250's. Pinchy's 2bros sounded nothing like Firey's Yoshi.

Yeh, and I have a Kwaka, probably always will. Only mentioned the yamaha and suzuki because another member did, and people got all feminine. I can agree with copping shit from people here for owning or wanting to own another model bike, like you said its a kwaka site.
