Any other recs for insurance? I've always had cars but as a main driver never as the policy holder, do I still get some sort of rating?
Call and ask, i think you'll find that one is likely a superset including the other.

Shannons also does laid up cover, which is great for the track bike and dirt bike. They also cover superbike schools and stay upright courses. I also found them to be cheaper. I was with Western QBE but they tried to sting me at renewal and wouldn't match Shannons cheaper quote so screw em, NRMA did the same with the car, so it's not worth being loyal to any of them really, you just have to do a ring around every year.
Also remember there is actually only 2 insurance companies. It will be great if Virgin come in and shake it up a bit.

If I was to fully insure a brand new R1 now, it would cost me like 5K a year.

27 years old
lost license for accumulation of demerit points a few years ago
2 at fault claims in last 5 years

Fcuken ridiculous, 5K, over 4 years is a brand new bike. Can't justify doing it if it will cost me that much.

As it is the 250 cost me like $900 a year.

i wouldn't pay that kind of premium either, but you gotta try and see it from the other side of the fence as well though.

or, just buy a trackbike and spend 5k a year on trackdayz :D

...geez that'd be like a trackday every 3 weeks...

I would still go with 3rd party property at the very least, very important and benefits you too. By having it you retain some type of insurance history which believe it or not, despite your record, will still reduce your premium so long as you don't have an at fault claim. That's what I'm planning to do. Go on 3rd Party Property & Fire & Theft then go Comprehensive once I've got some insurance history on record.

Here's my little story and why Clays premium for an R1 would be $5k.

An un-named mate of mine (in his 20s) wrote off his R6 and all of his gear.

Got an R1 with the insurance money, and wrote it and the new gear off a week later!

Can't insure a road bike anymore.... brought an Aprilla Trackie with the insurance money

NRMA quoted me $4000 a year for insurance for my 2 fiddy
AAMI $1287 & they were the cheapest
moral of the story
dont insure a bike wen ur under 25
Nothing in the world beats grippin the handlebars rippin the throttle & just soaring.
If there's any other source of pure freedom out there I have never seen it.

But my at fault claims is a little rear ender I had when driving a truck. Not much damage, about 2k worth, realistically about 1k worth but because it was through insurance you know what these repairers are like. And a smash on a GS500F, about 3K damage. No write offs or gear claims. I think my high premium is mostly because I'm under 30 and it's a 1000cc bike.

This fella you're talking about wouldn't happen to work at MCAS would he?

I'd say its more likely to be "little to no experience on a 1000cc machine" that has caused this premium to be quoted as it has. If you had 5-10 years experience it would be cheaper - even under 30.

A 600 may be a little cheaper but I'd guess a supersport bike - regardless of capacity - will attract a higher premium. Hence why I ride an old slow bike - or two ;)
