Re: Mel's gone mad...
Gosling, you're an arrogant little muppet ey, I'm chilled sport, just can't get over you and old mate being such twats.
I don't recall banging on about anything. I never challenged Phil's knowledge or experience, and I sure as shit never touted mine. I never stated I've ridden all of them bikes, or had any such experience or divine knowledge that no one else does. I stated my only source of first hand info about the R1, from a mate who owns one. Sorry I''m not like old mate and haven't ridden everything and ain't blessed with some privileged knowledge that others don't have.
I'm glad you admire and respect your bud, that's great, good on you. So others can't take what their mates say about a bike they've owned, when they've owned quite a few, but you can take what your mate says as gospel? Right.
By the way, my mate wouldn't be the only bloke who has good things to say about the 2009 R1, there'd be quite a few. And dare I say even a lot of experts with perhaps more experience than your good friend, Phil. Or maybe not, he's ridden them all and his statements are based on actual facts.
None of this matters anyway. Old mate came out with an R1 bash 'cause some one he doesn't know suggested the K5 or the new R1 (out of a possible two bikes mentioned. Not every litre bike out there), and he had a problem with it. I know fcuk all compared to you all about motorcycles anyway, what does it matter to you, I think someone was just looking for a stir.
I see Mel talk about riding the K5 and the R1. Nothing else. Don't know what a crim is, or a bug. And the main point of reference, to me anyway, is the K5 and R1 and the talk about having problems with non kwakas.Mel wrote:OK so I probably already was...![]()
anyway it's been nearly a year with the nine (and she just turned 100,000km yesterday!) so I'm thinking of upgrading... again...
I had a turn on an 05 GSXR1000 yesterday... and I really liked it. I found it to be more comfortable than the crim, which surprised me. I hopped on board and just went and it fit me great! I had been thinking of getting a new ZX6R but after riding the GSXR I think I really need 1000cc... OK well not really, but I want it!! And then this arvo I rode an older R1 and quite liked that as well...![]()
So... I am having problems with the idea of getting a non-kawasaki... talk me out of it!!!!!!! The GSXR is a bit ugly... but I don't see that while I'm riding it...
The bug is also a contender, though I really like the 08 colours better than the 09. I am yet to ride one though... is there any real difference between the 08 and 09?
Also... how much do you reckon I should put on my 9? It's got 100,700km on it now.

Wow! Good on you, you know so much more than me about motorcycles.Gosling1 wrote:I think that just about sums it all up !![]()
Something that ain't news to me, and I never tried to portray it as being any different.
I hope in years to come I might come to know half as much as you and old mate, I'll be a happy man.
At least we agree on something.

while I agree she did mention the Suzuki and the yammy, the 'bug' reference is for a ZX10 and she also mentions the new 6... Sorry to be pendantic. Phil has ridden a lot of bikes, and so has gos, I'm still not completely sure why they jumped down your throat, about you giving an opinion on a bike, and quite frankly as phil has said on many occasions, there aren't really any shit bikes these days, then I think it's a valid point. Maybe to save getting in these arguments with the grumpy old bastards again you should clarify your point of view... I think everybody gets more picky and testy the older they get

Re: Mel's gone mad...
I think it's more the fact that a lot of noobs have been throwing opinions around lately, even though they have just got on a bike and know very little to nothing. My advice to the newbies is to just sit back and listen for a while as you will learn far more from guys like Gos and Phil than you are likely to pick up on your own in a lifetime. These guys live and breath bikes and have a wealth of knowledge and still don't tell anyone what bike they SHOULD get, rather their advice is to ride them all because those of us that have ridden a few bike in our time know they don't fit everyone the same.
By all means if you feel you need to contribute, you can let people know that you heard something was good or that your mate loves his bike, but FFS don't try to tell someone they should get a particular bike, especially if you haven't ridden that bike or do not know the person you are advising personally.

Haha were your ears burning Guy? Phil mentioned you and your point of view of the R1 (as well as Ben Spies, Birdman and others) tonight when this topic came up.Wadda wrote:Umm. I won't tell you what I was thinking then.......see below.

As an ex GPX, KLX, ZX12, ZRX owner, all I can say is....... I wish the 09 R1 was a Kawasaki. Go the BIG BANG.

Re: Mel's gone mad...
I'm going to throw my 5c in this time
Geez you guys are argumentative lately
And re the R1, I know two guys in Brissy who bought them, and albeit they love them, both had major problems. One bike wouldn't run right that bad, and Yamaha couldn't work out what was wrong with it, so they gave him a different bike. And the other guys starter failed. Both within the first 6 months.
If it was a bike you liked maybe give them a bit longer to sort bugs out?
I rode a 06 gsxr1000 a while back, gave it back to the guy and said no thanks, I need a licence
That was a awesome bike..
Mel have you tried/considered the GSXR750? About the same HP as your nine, but more refined..
But for sex appeal you can't go past the monster energy zx6, they are goddam sexy
