Heard about this one while listening to the radio on Sunday afternoon.
Be careful out there...............
A MOTORCYCLIST is in a critical condition after plunging about 40m down an embankment at Springbrook in the Gold Coast hinterland.
Springbrook Rd was closed to all traffic after the crash at about 11.30am, as emergency crews went about retrieving the rider from the steep incline.
Fire crews staged a difficult retrieval to reach the man, eventually getting him back to the top just before 1pm.
"It was very difficult because of the vertical terrain and a number of large loose boulders," Queensland Fire and Rescue Service South East Region duty operations manager Mark Gribble said.
"Seven firefighters were involved in the rescue using their high-angle skills."
Inspector Gribble said the young rider was stabilised at the site before being winched to the top in a covered stretcher.
He was taken to the Gold Coast Hospital where he has undergone surgery for serious head and chest injuries.
Insp Gribble urged all motorists using the hinterland roads to exercise extreme caution.
"We get a number of these rescues up here and they come at a cost."
Springbrook Rd reopened to traffic about 4.30pm.
