Post by Whickle »

So, im after some bits for my Awesome ZRX1200R - 2004 model

I want to replace the Chain and sprockets, Air filter, braided lines, brake pads and the usual things that ware out (Front & Rear tyres  )

I am after some words of wisdom from Team ZRX or others who can point me in the direction of Good quality parts at reasonable prices. Im located in Canberra, home of Great roads, People and Little to no competition in the way of bike gear....

Ill be in Sydney on weekends a fare bit between now and Christmas. Most parts are not required NOW, but i want to have an idea on the best stuff and where to order/Get it from. If they are cheap, ill buy them when i can tho...

Best advice I could give you is to flip your eccentrics! ;)

I do not have any helpful advice for you.
I was admiring your clean, green machine though.
I can not wait to see the process and eventually the completed product.

Oh no, a word of warning......IF you are on a budget....DO NOT go to the sites Jono has mentioned ;)

I started on a budget ;) ............oh well.......mmmmmmm K-Factory mmmmmmmmmmmm

Greg Couch from the ZRXOA makes some nice stuff, the Us exchange rate is also good ATM. Also Jason 7019 and Ted 383 make nice bits customised for the ZRX. All those guys can be found in the parts made by ZRXOA members section of the forum.

Good luck

Sticking to your budget that is

I have a gold RK X-Ring Chain and gold vortex lightweight sprockets. They are not budget pieces of kit but in my experiece, you gets whats you pays for..........

BTW, my has no "bling bling" - everthing enhances performance in some way and looks good. Therefore I call it "Functional Bling" :kuda:

"Functional bling" - definition: functional - (comparative more functional, superlative most functional)
Positive
functional
Comparative
more functional
Superlative
most functional
1. In good working order.
2. Useful; serving a purpose, fulfilling a function
That sculpture is not merely artistic, but also functional: it can be used as a hatrack.
3. Only for fuctional purposes, notably in architecture
A functional construction element generally must meet higher technical but lower aesthetical requirements
bling - enhancements
and by the way you only over spend your budget if you get caught out ;)

So Vortex gear is good????

I know the RK chains are not bad at all, but i can get a vortex kit pretty cheap and in the colour i want. Is it worth it? And whats a reasonable price to pay for said items?

Tyres aslo, im thinking of going the Avon Storm ST's, any other thoughts on tyres? Im a fast cruising kind of rider.... However, i am known to try to keep up with folks i shouldnt.....

Not sure about prices, I got mine about 18 odd months ago. The XW ring gold chain was RRP of about $280 odd, sprockets were in the region of ~$40-60 & $90-100 from memory, use KSRC sponsors to get your bits & pieces ;)

In regards to tyres......I like the Metzler M3's, Nelso seems to be impressed with his pilot whatevers and some have also liked the BT-016, tyres are a feeelly type of thing if you know what I mean ;) ;)

I'm not as impressed with the Pilot Powers in the heat on rough roads. They are good in mild, cold and wet conditions but get very squirmy on a very hot day unless it's on hot-mix. I don't know if I'll get them again; will probably go back to M3's again.
