i would say that you would have problems getting another key.....from what i have heard to get another red key to program the black ones you have to change the ecu

No you can get a copy made for your black key...!! I did this to both of my ZX10's I had... the 06 model and the 08...

I have the contacts and it can be done, however it is very expensive..!! as in $220 - $250 per key.... But you will get another key, exactly the same as your original all with a new chip programmed inside. Trouble is getting your key here to Melb to get it done..!! and seriously, $250 is not expensive when you consider the price of a new ECU and installation..???

You could send the key here via registered post, express and I would send it back with the spare via registered post express... that's the only way I would trust doing it... and it would be back to you overnight or at least in 1 day...???

You have only one black key and you are thinking of putting it in the post   I would ride to Melbourne and don't let the key out of your sight.

I had the same hassle when I got my 07 ZX10R....... I ended up taking the dealer to Dept Fair Trading and in the end the dealer replaced the ECU etc etc and I had to contribute $500..... supose to cost over $2,000.......... I now have a Red Key and two Black ones

I don't know if it's compatable with your 05 but Greenman has all you need off an 06 model for $400 which is a good price.......

Here it is here, check it out with someone if the 06 will fit the 05.......... OHH and don't forget your fuel tank and rear seat locks.....

its a long shot idea, but if i could find the previous owner that crashed the black 10r in queensland some two months ago i could just buy the red key from him, i dont know who he is or if he is among the mortal as i perchased the bike at a salvage auction, hence no red key!!!!!!

rant....

why the hell dont keep their red key in a safe place and pass it on with the bike when they sell it..it's worth nothing to them anyway once they have sold the bike..

end rant....

I bought mine from a kawasaki dealer as a company demo, turned out the sales manager bought the bike from Victoria for himself and then sold it to me

I tried to track the previous owner down in Victoria but due to privacy, no one will give you the information

Maybe start a thread here titled "QUEENSLANDERS LOOK HERE" you might get lucky but I don't like your chances...... good luck...

Hi ZXnator... I know the frustration of only having the black key..!! I lived with the 1 key for almost 2 years searching for a way to get a spare.. then finally I got in contact with the right people and was able to get it copied professionally... What a relief... and I didn't mind paying the price either.. so it was a win / win for me..!!

I do see the situation with the postage, and I would be stressing as well, that's why I specified registered post, I would even go express overnight delivery, door to door and sign for delivery as well..!! I know you pay for it, but I have not lost anything that way either.. it get's tracked the whole way... I would reckon the total would be around $300 paying for the postage and key duplicating...??

Anyway.. see how you go... I am here and you can PM me anythine..

i went to a local locksmith in Windsor NSW, when i got my Kawasaki blanks cut, he said thought he could program them himself. he stuck my red key in his machine and got a chip number off it, checked his book and said it could possibly be done.

go check a decent locksmith. 8)
