Summer riding gear????
Greeting fellow motorcyclists.
Just wondering what people are wearing in hot weather, whilst riding.
Tshirt, shorts and thongs don't cut it at the moment.
Today will be 40 - 41 deg cel. and it will only get hotter
I have a Joe Rocket textile / vented etc jacket, matched with normal jeans & boots.
I am looking at a Jacksons Motor suit, all in one overalls, moderate loose fit and vented / perforated
I need protection cos old bones don't mend as easily as they did and, I don't like pain (unless recreational).
I don't plan tyo have an off but you never know.

Mate, I still wear the leathers even if only half an hour away. Just aint worth it believe me.
Sweat never killed anyone as long as you keep drinking and it gives your leathers that 'nobodies else is gonna wear these feel'

40 - 41?
Where the hell are you?
Oh and Welcome to KSRC, a hotbed of radical arguments and swearing

When it gets really hot you may find a Burka quiet comfortable

Re: Summer riding gear????
I live at Watarrka NT.
300 km SW of The Alice.
@130 km North of The Rock.
Have lived in The Centre for 12 years.
Moved from Melbourne.(bayside)
Used to wear Mars leathers - never tried their skidability.
And they shrank with age, or did I expand (won't put money on that)
Leathers appear to be the go.
I like the Jackson Motosuit. One piece, loose overall type and perforated.
Anyone used them???
I am at an age where I prefer to act my shoe size not my age

You fit right in with the shoe size
Is Manilaws Engineering still in Alice?
I used to work there years ago, working on the roof of the TIO building in 47 degrees was no bloody fun at all

Another vote for leathers. I have a mesh jacket but it never gets worn as I feel much safer in leathers that zip together.

Re: Summer riding gear????
wow 40 degrees thats harsh. i'd be at the pub
i'd go vented textile jacket, hornee or draggin jeans, summer vented gloves and usual water proof bone dry boots.
jeans are kevlar lined and aslong as its a good jacket you would be sliding like a champion
and of course crash lid.
depends how much you want to spend. it aint cheap im still recovering.

Wait until you crash test some of the stuff you are advising others to get. Draggin jeans and textile gear does NOT offer the same protection as leather and you may end up sliding like a champion but your skin will be worn away in the process.Reedy wrote:wow 40 degrees thats harsh. i'd be at the pub

Ok.... The varied opinions are polarised.
I appreciate them all. It leads to people listening to others ideas, contributing and evaluating information.
I was going for a ride but the temperaturomometer just nudged 44 and its not yet summer.
might go a bity later. Clouds are coming in. No rain though
To Seiko 1 - I haven't heard of Manilaw's . What year was that?

Re: Summer riding gear????
Depends on how hard or fast you're going to ride. If I'm just nipping down to the shops or riding to work which is mostly 60 zones and it's stinking hot I might opt for the mesh jacket which is cooler, but there is no way I would go for a hard ride with it on. Once you've been riding for a while and you get to see and experience the harsh reality of coming off, you start to view gear in a different way. You don't wear it for their looks or for comfort, the only purpose it has is to protect you and you put up with wearing the uncomfortable Poweranger looking things purely because they do that job better than anything else. This isn't meant to offend the new guys, more be constructive criticism, but there are a lot of inexperienced riders who like to give advice and it always seems to encourage people to get the same cheep stuff they have. All of the GOOD riders I have been riding with over the years ALL wear leather and all spend money on quality as they learnt over the years that the cheep shit is exactly that.dedly dave wrote:Ok.... Crash test of Draggin jeans @ 50 - 60 kmh lowside......Nelso wrote:Wait until you crash test some of the stuff you are advising others to get. Re: Summer riding gear????
ok i stand corrected. i didnt assume he would be going faster than 60-80km/h
On a medium to hot day what is a viable substitute to leather than a venting textile and kevlar leggings?

Re: Summer riding gear????
at the risk of being burned i dont think thats a bad crash for 60km/h on bitumen. Do the draggins or hornees have the kevlar on the calf side?
point taken though.
