I copped it last night, after crashing the Husaberg yesterday.

A few mates and I decided to ride the dirt roads and single trails to Murray Bridge and return - a good 6 hour trip. Part of the trip involved riding through the hills on the twisty bitumen roads. I stupidly grabbed too much front brake entering a 25k posted corner. Too much front brake + knobby tyres = disaster.

A small slide resulted in a broken decompression lever and a busted front guard.

Such a stupid mistake which resulted in an ear bashing when I got home.

Well, Cath after reading your post, I really don't have much to add tbh ... You're too good! ;)

My 2c worth : My ex is a rider and I was his pillion for many many years. Then 10 odd years ago, I got my licence and yes everytime I was going somewhere or going away on the bike my parents always told me to be careful. It's what parents do, cos they care.
At the time my bf was extremely worried due to the fact that I was/am a very agressive driver and he was concerned that I'd be an aggressive rider. He was pleasantly surprised when I turned out to be a defensive rider, thereby increasing my chances of staying alive on Sydney roads. :D

It wasn't til I got on the back of a Harley that it all turned pear shaped.

The amount of guys, that I've met over the years, that told me they were selling their bike cos they just got engaged .... like, AS IF !! :finga:
I wouldn't marry a guy that would even contemplate asking me that. I say, good luck and probably goodbye to the guy that thinks he could make me sell my passion!! :o

Hey, who needs a bf when you've got a ZX9R anyway (and a ZXR (til this week that is) :) :kuda:

As I don't have a road bike (at the moment ;) ) I don't get any grief about that and they're somewhat reassured that track riding is generally safer (full gear, all going the same direction etc) but they still worry. Given I've had a couple of offs this year, they're concern has increased slightly but overall they understand that it's what I want to do and I don't take unneccessary risks. What are they going to think when I start jumping out of aeroplanes

Being a newer rider my parents were disappointed that I was going to buy a Z750 despite me being an age that they know I can look after myself.
As others have said before me, they love me so they do not like me doing anything they consider dangerous.
My little brother, who does not ride very often, has a licence and they are under the impression he is very safe.
This is not necessarily true but my brother and I do not make things more difficult for each other.
I had an accident that was the cager's fault and my parents became even more disapproving.
They did not like me deciding to get another bike, especially a ZX10R but they do not hound me about it.
My parents live 2.5 hours away, I am single, rent an apartment and I do not have a car.
Any future partner would not ask me to sell my bike as they will know what it means to me, as I would never ask them to cease doing what they love.
Yes, people you love will often want you to cease riding.
If you make your position clear in a firm, considered and loving manner, it should not be a problem again.

I hope this helps.

I'm kind of 'hell'ing myself - does that count? ;)
Ultimatum's suck - and I wouldn't accept them. I think Strika, and Cath, and others, are spot on.

My missus is as concerned as I am - after 2 serious accidents who wouldn't be? But also accepting that I can't let go (cue the 'postie doesn't count' responses :D ) - she also wouldn't ask (I don't think...).
We're both more concerned about an idiot on the road taking me out again (like the last time), and leaving my son fatherless. Without him there wouldn't be an issue.

You don't have that responsibility yet. Regardless ultimatums are selfish and show an inability to accept and compromise - I'd be careful. Beyond that I'm hesitant to tell someone I don't know how to manage their relationships - you might be a right bastard and just as selfish :D
Good luck with it though ;)
If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

my brother was the biggest objector to me getting a bike.
he tried to dob me in for everything at the time and my parents said "its his money , he can do what he likes".
my girlfriend got into motorbike riding which is an even more interesting story.
according to her mother im going to crash my bike with her on the back and well both die. she says this because she knew a couple who died whilst riding a motorcycle. Now the real story regarding this couple was they where newly married, shed never been on the back of the bike before ,neither rider nor pillion where wearing protective gear or helmets, it was a harley and they where both drunk and went for a lap of the block.
so that scenario somehow relates to me taking her on the back of a bike (zx9r at first, then cbr954 now a zx12r) in full protective gear ( which i bought for her), after she got her licence and me having the experience i have and only ever riding at 4/10ths with her on the back.
to further add to this story it was perfectly fine for her brother to buy a bike and ride round in shorts and an open face helmet. to add more the parents helped him pay for it and then he crashed it with no protective gear on and then helped pay to fix it.
but after she financed her own bike and got more than adequate protective gear they where disapointed and didnt want her beautiful skin to get gravel rash.
Lovely isnt it.
