Resonator

Hi y'all,

I've just got myself a 1999 ZX6 and in the process of removing the indicators, Jesus bars and other rubbish I don't need on a track bike.

I had the upper fairing off and was wondering what purpose the resonator serves?

It sits just on the air intake and feels like it's hollow and so I was wondering do I need it and why?

no idea what you speak of.

if itsd the little tube things, they need to stay as it makes the carbs work or some shit.

The resonator sits on both sides of the air intakes....

I used to run my 9 on the track without them, just put a bung in the holes. They have something to do with the air wave, a google search should provide some info.
Personally I would leave them on as you aren't going to save much weight by removing them and if it improves the air flow into the air box as kawasaki has designed this must be a good thing.

Mines the year after yours and I have never seen anything like that. Are they original?

Hi,

I had a 97 road bike which never had them, now I've a 98 track bike and they've been taken off and the holes covered with duct tape, never even realised they were supposed to be there until I purchased another 98 rolling chassis which they were on.

The track bikes never suffered with them off as far as I can tell, no idea what they're for though.

I would leave them on. There is no weight saving.

The resonators are there to dampen, air pressure "pulses" or waves .
Giving a more stable & consistant fuel metering conditions.

Get rid of em, TKA didn't run em..
On other models they were below the intakes, and can be removed too.
Straight thru air ducts are the go, and block all the holes..

Ditch em mate both my road 9 and my track bike have had them removed and it didn't give it one bit of trouble. I'll show you the dyno sheet for the tracky if you want.

I gave up buying magazines for the articles ...PICS

or... it didn't happen !

TBH, I think pulse or resonance dampening is more applicable to... two stroke

induction.

But...bung in some yakfat, for sure!!!
