Re: Awesome bike on ebay 73 Z1A
I think I have some old photos in Two Wheels or REV's of that particular bike.....maybe.....the paint scheme looks vaguely familiar ??
There once was a Z1000 that did put out 167hp at the front sprocket........The Syndicate. There is a story about it here....
The bike in tha ebay ad. looks to me to be a very early 900, either a Z1 or perhaps a Z1A or Z1B. The sidecovers give that away. It has a later-model rear disc from a 1979 or 1980 MkII fitted, and probably the front discs as well....bit hard to see the bolt pattern in those photos. The early models handled the worse, but bracing in the right spots can fix that up
.
It would be a nice project for some Forgotten Era racing.....

I see he has lowered his starting bid to 1000 bucks with a reserve
but still his reserve must be atleast 5 grand

Already lowered it ?? Must have had no nibbles at all........
A reasonable price for that rig would be around 4-5k I reckon - and then a freshen-up of the motor would probably be in order as well......

$4.5 k

Didn't think we had police radars in 1983 especially in QLDThe bike was clocked in excess of 150mph (by police radar) at Surfers Paradise Raceway in 1983.

Re: Awesome bike on ebay 73 Z1A
in excess of 150mph eh ? .....mmmmm would have been a good one to do that.
The Black Pearl tops out around 240k (150mph) on a good day - and it is a fuel-injected 1100 with fairly extensive port-work in the head, oversize valves etc etc........
Maybe they borrowed the radar from the Coolangatta coppers Johnno ???
