Sorry to hear about this Tim. Hope you recover well and quick.

I'd read about the warnings of new tyres but this is the first post I've seen where it's proved so easy to slide on them.

The bike can be repaired and gear replaced but glad you're ok.

shit outta luck tim!!! i have to say when i had my 250, i actually took it for a whirl around the back streets to scrub the bt45s in... of course i made sure i did all acceleration and braking whilst bolt upright... but after a 20 minute blat they felt like mornal im genuinely surprised u havnt seen it mentioned around the traps here.... :?

i had brand new tyres on at the august track day and even the guys at the track were coming up to me as we were filing out onto the track saying "it appears you have brand new tyres on, remember to take it easy"

as everyone has said, you wont do it again, and you have another experience to put under your motorcycling belt...

Was going to stay quiet but, Tim - I am sooo sorry that you expereinced new tyres this way :P As I also said to you last week, the Demons really are a great tyre -and I hope you know I WOULD have told you to take it easy etc....not very professional that they bitched about Greg in front of a customer and I must add that I would question her knowledge and expereince with motorbikes when it comes to tyres or brakes etc. Back in my box now :P Just SO SORRY you expereinced this :(

Man, what a bitch :( Unfortunately you aren't the first person that's happened to & you certainly won't be the last.
For future reference, always SCRUB the tyre all over with Prepsol or similar Wax & Grease Remover, rough it up with 36 grade sandpaper or stainless steel wool (use the proper stuff, not Steelo soap pads) then scrub (not wipe) the tyre again.
It's the silicone mould release compound that makes the tyre slippery, once you get rid of it you can get your knee down on the first corner.
Having worked in the trade & fitted a plethora of tyres, my golden rules are NEVER let a bike out of the shop without -
A/ Prepping the tyre as described above.
B/ Warning the customer to take it easy for the first 100ks anyway.
I'm never one for legal action but in this instance it's obvious the shop neglected their 'Duty Of Care' & that's unforgiveable.

i had the cab drop me off at the scene. standing here now taking pics what strikes me is just how early it let go and the scrapes start... I'd say 2-3 metres into the corner (EDIT and it's a long sweeping corner banked correctly towards the inside, clean road)... Will come and look again when i have more time :?

just found 7 dollars in loose change scattered across the road must have lost it from one of the pockets ripped open.... Will get a start on the approx 700 to 800 dollars to fix bike and replace broken gear (EDIT not counting heavily scraped engine cover, pegs, center stand, mirror and both blinkers) :?

Rooster, you are right.... Neck is starting to hurt now (EDIT - shoulder getting worse) :?

Tough luck man!
I Have hard you have to take it easy on new tyres never knew jsut how easy
I am yet to get new rubber on my bike but will make sure i take it very easy when i do end up getting some!
Hopefully this is a lesson i won't have to learn the hard way!

Damn man that's unlucky, at least your fine. I actually got my rear changed and got the rear sliding out the other night. Luckily it caught traction again, it was the scariest second of my life. The dumb thing is that the dude @ castle hill motorcycles actually told me to take it easy for the 1st couple 100k's. I better scrub the sides as kwak addict advised.
So Tim are you going to repair the hole bike? have considered getting a new one? it might work out better financially...
When i grow up i want a ZX6R just like Rob Racer...

Get it checked out asap. There are no nerves in the tendons and you can do a lot of damage with no pain. Get your GP
to send you for an ultra sound.
