Motorcycle Convenience Questionnaire

Hi,

My name is Leon Evans and I'm currently looking for people to participate in my research project. This project is part of my final year thesis unit for my Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree at Queensland University of Technology.

This study aims to explore the relationship between the convenience aspects of motorcycling and motorcyclists' intentions.

We are looking for motorcycle riders, who have ridden a motorcycle on a public road in Australia at anytime, to complete the confidential questionnaire that makes up this project.

Transport is a discipline of Civil Engineering. Motorcycling is a form of transport that I have a lot of interest in. My university offers a lot of freedom when it comes to choosing your thesis topic.

The 'point' of this study as such is to explore the relationship between the convenience aspects of motorcycling and motorcyclists' intentions.

Stereo, the question you are refering to contains a 'Other (please specify)' response because it is quite difficult to include a comprehensive list of pre-set answers that works for everyone.

I find it far more convenient to just get in the car and go rather than get ready for the bike...Riding the bike is more about the feeling once on the open road, and I have lots of them and little traffic. Not sure I would ride as much if I had to do battle with Sydney traffic every ride...I HATE TRAFFIC...

Given my family situation I rarely ride any more and was wondering if it was worth giving it and the bike away for a few years. I'm not going to renew my Ulysses membership this year and the bike is probably worth half it was when I bought it in 2006 and has done less than 8000km.

I have f-all time on the weekends to do anything I'd like to do, never mind get out on the bike. The only option really is the commute to work, but the ride is crappy and if push come to shove I can't pick any of the the kids up from their mum's place on the Hornet.

The train is cheaper as well, $2490 per year for the equivalent of 41000km travel. When you extrapolate that out to three major services, two minor services, 2 or 3 sets of tyres and 2100 litres of premium unleaded then it's not worth it...

...and I get an extra hour or so sleep on the train.

Jeez, so THAT'S the answer and it's SO simple.

So all I need to do is not care about:
* my three teenage kids AND
* my job with the 12-hour door-to-door day including the commute AND
* my new partner AND
* her daughter AND
* my parents AND
* the large mortgage on one income AND
* the house the Ex left me that is collapsing about me AND
* the resultant renovations that co-incidentally are best done on the best riding days.

...AND then I'm right to 'make time for the things I like'?

Sounds a lot like my life except for that volunteering crap
I ride...........not as often as I like..........but I ride
If you fall off the perch tomorrow those things will get done by someone else anyway,
so you may as well give them a headstart on the learning curve
