But clearly, with SO MANY FUCKING RIDERS DYING UP THERE, there are obviously a lot of dickheads riding *way* beyond their ability. The fact that Q-Ride allowed them to ride high-powered sports bikes, with ZERO testing of their actual ability in the first place - is the reason that so many riders are dying up there today. You can blame cars, or the condition of the road, or whatever you like. It doesn't matter for shit what you blame, if you are dead.

The Q-Ride problem may have been addressed now, but yeh, that horse has well and truly left the paddock eh ?

What shits me most, is that due to the incompetence of the idiot administrators who allowed this system to fester along, lives have been lost.

And the actions taken to stop this from continuing, with all the bullshit about electronic tracking devices bduh.gif , will inevitably impact all other riders around the country - riders who *can* handle a couple of beers on a ride, riders who don't ride beyond their limits, and riders who have had nothing to do with all the bullshit up there - but will lose freedoms as a result.

Its crap. Simple as that.
Yep i totally agree with you.

I done my Q-Ride after the rules were changed, just i might add, and i fel that i'm alot better off riding now than i would have been if i went straight to a big bike.

Do i still need some traiing??? Yep i sure as hell do and i'm planning to address that soon.

I don't agree with the ZERO alcohol though.
That should be left to the rider to decide, obviously sticking with the current drink drive laws of course.

thats a great attitude, and if more riders up there thought like you, perhaps there would be less deaths.

I have ridden around SE Qld with blokes from places like OSB etc - and I'll be honest - some of them are absolute fucking idiots. Lane-splitting at >130kmh, overtaking every mofo and their dog around blind corners, riding half-cut.......I hated riding with them. Glad it only happened a couple of times.....

Its the approach from the govt., which paints *every* motorcyclist as a law-breaking criminal that should be punished, that really shits me. When its really only the actions (and subsequent deaths) of a minority, that can potentially impact on ALL of us...... :?

Cheers.

I've been on rides where i've been overtaken on a blind bend on the outside by some squid wearing a tshirt and jeans.

My opinion is that every rider should be made to sit an advanced course every year regardless of who they are. Won't stop the clowns but it will help those that want to be better riders get better.

I once spoke with a Vic.senior sargent in road law.I suggested that along with speeding fines,a "safety" {advanced } course paid for by the fined person must be passed before they were allowed back on the road,his comment? "NO WAY", we dont want educated drivers/riders on the road{I think he was scared we would all think we were Vale} Since then, I have no wish to have communications with him, what a twat! So as you can see, Vic cops {at least this one } have no idea.

Talk about a misuse of parrenthesis!!

Anyway, there is some evidence which suggests that highly trained riders/drivers actually become more dangerous on the road. Mainly due to their sudden belief that they are much, much better riders/drivers and therefore take greater risks.

Any ongoing enforced training would need to be very specific.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/do ... ts2007.pdf

Summary :
Motorcyclists = 57 killed 2144 injured

Pedestrians = 68 killed 2119 injured

Bicycles = 14 killed 1154 injured

Car = 173 (driver) killed 12880 (driver) injured

So maybe pedestrians should be targetted ?
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

Ah yes QLD , where wearing a pair of leather pants & jacket , boots and gloves makes you look like you are from outta space .
Those dudes riding around on pushbikes with stinking 2 stroke motors plonked on em , that zoom around dressed in their best thongs and stack hat , would have their accident stats shoved in with motorcycle accident rates .
And , great zero alchohol for motorcyclist , but in a cage , no worries have a few . Obviously being surrounded by metal and glass keeps your concentration and reaction times perfect . :roll:
Qld Gov + broke = revenue raising bullshit .
Ummmm let me see

Ok before you blokes get your nicker's in a Knot Tis as usual has been beaten up by the media as usual to get a reaction rightfully so ?

This was taken from Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland Motorcycle Safety Strategy 2009–2012 2009
° a zero alcohol limit for all learner,provisional and novice motorcycle licence holders, regardless of age (the term ‘novice rider’ refers to the first 12 months of licensing after the learner
stage even though the rider may have held a car licence for some time);
If you take the time to read through the whole document it reflects a lot of the comments that most of the people on here have voiced in regard's to safety
Unfortunately the HI ViS vest issue has raised its ugly head "GOS" and may actually make an impact in QLD :(
"A number of Australian jurisdictions require newly licensed riders to comply with a zero alcohol limit. First year RE and R licence holders in Queensland are already subject to
a restriction on carrying passengers for the first 12 months, recognising that their skills are still developing. The zero alcohol restriction will apply in Queensland to all newly licensed
motorcyclists, regardless of age, recognising the risks that novice riders face until they have accumulated sufficient riding experience. It is expected that this new restriction will
commence in late 2009.

What you are referring to is partially myth and again a distortion of facts. The old saying that "knowledge is power and power is dangerous" I think is what seems to applied here.There is a belief that if a rider/ driver knows how to go faster then they will use it that knowledge, not necessarily true and due to the fact that actual advance rider/ driver training is limited to mainly those who want to go faster these figures will be distorted. There is some truth but remember also why we send kids to school, so they can learn from others mistakes.

If you take the NSW training model, rider fatalities actually reduced as a percentage of rider and rider trips since the introduction of subsidised training programs for L and P. It is not about going around corners faster but about how to avoid putting yourself in a situation where you lose. It is very much defensive rider training.

On topic I am not sure a zero alcohol will work as it will discriminate against the ones who are trying to the right thing. Compulsory riding gear would be a good thing. Heat in the top end is problem, well lay on the tar with your skin ripped off and let me know hot it gets. Simple rule, All The Gear All The Time.

For those who want to know, for every standard drink you require one hour for that to filter through to not register. i.e. If you drink a carton of beer over 12 hours (24 cans/ bottles) it will actually take about 30 - 36 hours for that to filer through your body to not register. Please note that each individual will vary the actual result.

Cheers,

Nick

Alright my 2c.
Zero BAC for ALL road users? No. 0.01-0.02? Yes. That way I can still watch the footy with mates and not worry whether my metabolism needs an extra couple of hours or not. I can have my morning cough medicine and mouth wash without being hauled in for a blood test.

Australian standards clothing? Maybe. Who's paying to replace my $200 pair of Draggins if they don't pass the test? (assuming they're smart enough to qualify the old stuff as well as the new).

Enforced clothing standards? Hi Vis vest/Jacket etc after dark? Annoying but I'll do it. So long as it can be as simple as sticking some reflective tape onto a jacket if I don't want to carry around a separate vest. Full kit through summer? Definite merits depending on how far they go. But who's gonna educate everybody on the warning signs of heat stroke and dehydration? Although it would almost be worth it to see what the outlaws would do about it... Not sure a cut off and open-face helmet would meet the standards :P.
See here, young man,
From Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh,
There's none can ride like me.

I already feel like I should start wearing an alfoil hat and now they want to tag me. Got lots of industrial magnets at work and the coils in a V6 commodore make a fairly powerful magnetic field.
