Looks awesome - still not sure how it will handle dirt though. Those knobbies are not used to 170bhp.

After having a *very* short blast up and down the same laneway in the video (except getting into 2nd gear and having the front wheel respond accordingly  ) - I reckon it is going to be fantastic in the dirt.

The way Laurie has set it up with ride height at the front and rear, together with how the suspension response feels - well its way better than any 'backyard' jobbie. Its set up well, and should be great out on the local firetrails..... :kuda:

The back knobbie is already showing signs of stress from the concrete !!

Mate, awesome job!

One question though- Ya reckon the headstock will take the pressure? It's gonna take one hell of a pounding once it hits the trails and it is gonna be liftin that front wheel alot ;)

cheers Damo....the bloke who is building this bike (Laurie) has done a fantastic job with all the custom-made bits and pieces that are everywhere you look....

The headstock should be fine - landing from wheelies, jumps etc, it now has a very nice 240-odd mm of travel in the front end, all sprung very nice and MX-style soft (compared to the stock road forks) - so this will absorb just about the worst that most dirt tracks could throw I reckon....

its time for an update, there has been some more movement at the station.... ;)

OK punters, time for another update. Laurie has been busy (as usual) knocking up a whole lot of new stuff for the 10R chookie. This next set of photos has a story that is a *must read* !!

Here are the latest updates......

"......I have been busy....I was sorting through the zx10 leftover bits when i noticed the yokes. Now the biggest obstacle to riding the bike seriously was the lack of steering lock, just ask Gos. I had planned to have a set of yokes made, but getting around to finding someone capable, ordering the enormous chunk of 7075 to make them from, and the cost i had been dragging my feet a little.anyways thats all sorted now. I modified the zx10 yokes to fit. The lower yokes have a id of 54mm and upper has 50mm id,the dirtbike forks are 49mm od stanchions. So i machined up some sleeves to make them fit, done. I then pressed the stem out modified it to suit the ohlins damper ,turned the lower yoke upside down then pressed the stem back in.Some new bearings went in,done.

I then drilled and tapped 4 holes in the top yoke to mount the dirt bar mounts, done. Now the ignition key and steering lock fit back as stock, nice and neat.
Steering lock is now 33 degrees, was 23 degrees and zx10 stock was 30 degrees. I sacrifice 12mm fork travel but that's acceptable,it cost me nothing but my time. I modified the zx10 axle to make it longer and to fit the dirt bike forks. Madeup some wheel and caliper spacers as the yokes space the forks further apart from 190mm too 210mm,which is great as it gives the forks more torsional stiffness. Now it gets better.....

I can now refit the standard zx10 forks, brakes, wheel as well as the rear wheel slipping straight back in the rear already. Also an appropriately valved and sprung rear shock. So that now gives me whats called a hypermotard,so i can go bush one day and do a trackday the next and have it street registered, how cool is that. Talk about bang for your buck....."

".....Been busy again. Just made up these combination engine mounts/radiator guards. Been wanting to replace the weak looking standard engine/frame brackets and also needed to give the rads some heavyduty protection for when i inevitably chuck this thing down the road.Killed two birds with one stone type of thing.

Made from 6mm 5083 alloy plate,i machined up some backside spacers which i will weld into the plate, along with some gussets to make it even stronger, the leading front edge of the guards will be folded to a 45 degree angle in towards the rads. All the bolt heads will be countersunk into the plate. I will cut some holes in the plate to stylize and lighten the plates as well. Notice the weak looking standard brackets and the oversize bolt holes, little wonder if people are cracking frames....."

OK - thats where the build is up to at this point. Still a way to go, although its really starting to look the part now. I am not sure if Laurie intends to put a c/f cover over each of those side-plate guards , but it would look *horn* I reckon......

The plan for headlights etc , and tidying up the area above the front guard is well under way.... - it will look fantastic. One of my mates down here has a 100hp KTM 950SE, and that thing can spin up the back wheel at the ton......the real ton. We will be lining these bikes up for a sprint when the 10R is finished.....

Stay tuned for the next instalment. Its bound to pucker ya sphincter !!!

Bloody pussies!!! where's the huffer????
No doubt already on the 'to do' list but prob worth mentioning;

>engine bashplate?
>vertical rad louvering (mud deflection/stone protection) ie any MXer
>swingarm extensions = more travel / stability (and a longer drop to the ground when vertical!?)
>Looks like a 110/90 753 Dunlop rear? Trelleborg EF07's if available seem to hold up well on big bangers (don't seem to tear knobs off as quickly) think they are a nice wide 130/90 and 140/80 18 from memory ;)

Add another 100 or so ponies and a lot more attitude and you have what this thread is about

 - I reckon it will spin a few punters out when he turns up at a trackday as a HyperMotard !!!....

with a bit of luck, the seat will be upholstered soon , and we can get out to some dirt for real testing. My mate with the 950SE KTM is looking forward to the duel !!

Guaranteed to get some good footage of *that* testing..... :kuda:

dunno :? - that 13.5 litres should be good to get him about 150km *max* I reckon. Which is plenty for a local strop in the mountains.

I can squeeze between 170-200km out of the big 19l tank on the 750MX bike. But it depends on how many hills / long firetrails we ride on.... ;)
