New paint Ideas

Post by bassmaniac69 »

Well, I'm just after a few opinions on what to do re a new paint scheme on my 03 Z1000. I about to have the tank repaired (for the second time, doh!) and have had a few ideas on some colour ideas, and I thought I would run it past the forum to see what you think. My options are:

1. Keep it the all black (stock 03 colour) scheme I have now and get the tank resprayed the original colour. All covers (rad, side) have been painted 03 black and the rearsets and a few other black bits are powder coated black.

2. Repaint the top half of the bike (duck tail, cowl, tank and head light surround) one colour and keep the bottom half (rad covers, side covers etc) black, getting a two colour scheme going. This is my current idea/favourite choice

3. Repaint the whole lot a new colour (top half and all covers) keeping my rear sets black.

The colour choices I have narrowed it down to are the new 750 lime/metallic green, 09 candy orange burnt colour or a nice custom candy apple red.

I've always liked the whole black street fighter look but think that maybe a change would be good as I have the chance to get the job done at the moment.

Thoughts, comments, ideas??

Whilst normally I'm a fan of the black, I gotta say your 2tone idea sounds interesting, with the bottom half black your choice for the top half is wide, I'd go with something original like the candy lime green (2002 ZRX colour)or maybe a candy red?????

top half of tank and tail (follow the crease up the tail and the lines up the side of the tank) the burn oprange colour or proper Kwak green (not the metalic one) if you want sparkles get some shimmer stuff in clear over the top.

front guard black on the sides and green on top, (or carbon 8) ) :kuda:

You know I still love the Zed with only the rear, tank and front fairing in colour. Any colour it just sets them off.
This is one of my favourite Zed pics.......

Triumph sunset yellow is a nice colour also, that's what I'm toying with if I get bored of the white :D
Speed triples have had some nice colours over the years, greens, yellows, whites and blacks, good comparison with the black motor and trim going on.

Which ever way you go good luck dude

Yep, agree with Damon about one colour up top and everything else blacked out or like my old one was (bellow). I like the idea of the candy lime colour and would colour-match the centre of the wheels candy lime and keep the outer edges polished.

Haha, that's right mate I did too! I forgot about that! :D

In any case I got the bits back tonight from the painters, so I am just in the process of putting it back together. I'll have some pics tomorrow or on Sunday as I have to work tomorrow arvo.

So what did I go? Well that was the hard decision, I finally decided on a Candy Green Lime colour for the tank, front, rear, cowl and front guard. So all green, one colour. I have to say I'm liking it so far. The painter did a really good job and I think that with all of the black bits it will look the goods! He took the atomic metallic green holden colour then added more gold to make it sparkle a bit. Not traditional Kwaka I know, but it's still green!

Thanks for all of the thoughts, it helped me a great deal in the end!

Should have gone black mate!!! :)

HA, all good, now I'm getting back into the Zed a lot more, hence the paint job! I sold the Busa, something I haven't regretted yet. I bought my wife an 08 ER6F which is a cool bike as well!

What have you done to it??

Guess I'm hijacking my own thread! :)

Mate, I could have gone black 12 months ago but circumstances changed. Good job after the fuel tank disaster

Yeah picked up Sakis nearly 3 months ago, had some time due to a license suspension,.

Done heaps, all I gotta do now is fit the ZX10R rear shock (MadKaw) and the dogbones I have just ordered to raise the arse end. Then I'll get the front forks reworked at Racetech and I think that'll do.

Looks good in white and satin black 8)
