undercover sportsbikes....

Im yet to confirm this but Im led to believe there are R1's being replaced with Fireblades ridden by the NSW finest with hidden lights sirens etc (how Ill be buggered) but apparently have booked some people,
I was told about some bike website that has the details tonight and when I get the email will post the link, I cant remember name of it but some of you may have already seen it.
Usually I think this stuff is a hoax but the ride leaders seemeda tad concerned about it..
Just thought Id post it as a warning incase its true...

for a few years now we have had undercover bikes....
Ducs and bimmer sports
complete with hidden lights and sirens
but the riders are in police (rider) uniform

some of the guys here who have been to PI for Supers and Motogp
would have seen them (very obvious at Supers last year)
normally they patrol the hills.....

While we're on the subject of motorbike cops... Has anyone ever seen them with protective gear on? All the NSW ones I've seen have been wearing lovely little cotton shirts. I would've thought they'd have some sort of jacket (leather or good synthetic) with police insignia as a uniform.

Rain coat is about as good as they get in Queensland although i believe being on a white honda with a blue siren mekes it a lot safer on the roads with people being able to see them ok.

They just seem to poodle around at the speed limit here and give up on chases pretty easy so i supose they are fairly safe and well trained riders and i have only heard of one dead one over the last few years in Queensland.

the bike plod wear blue leathers (matching pants and jacket)
which is better than the old style cloth jodpurs...

its stinking hot...then its leathers pants with short sleeve shirts

We had a bike cop pull up next to us this morning and we were looking at his gear. Seems to have good boots and gloves, but just a cotton shirt and those tight pants horseriders wear.

I'm surprised they don't have at least some protection like a Drimesh or similar, and some kevlar in the knees and bum Draggin Jeans style shouldn't be that hard to arrange.

As for them being safe riders I agree I haven't heard of many going down lately, but it can't be a very safe profession. I've heard their training is very good, and their risk analysis skills would be sharper than most.

but its not help much if they are in the process of grinding their
hand/wrist/elbow (your pick) into the bitumen after colliding with
car/truck/object on the road

funnily enough they are not allowed to wear protective gear, a mate of mine is on the bikes up at tweed heads and they arent allowed to wear proper bike boots back protectors and the like, only thing they can wear personalised is there gloves. Pretty crappy thing really considering the job they have to do. Even there boots arent bike boots they are actually from the mounted police! and those wonderous nylon jodpers many a bike cop has a wonderful story to tell of the scourer in hostibubble with the nurse trying to dig the blue scorched nylon out.
Apparently they are doing a hush hush trial of this according to him, but "he didnt say that"....

we have undercover (unmarked) bikes here (Vic)
as I mentioned above
saw one yesterday at the Spur
an unmarked blue bimmer with rider in blue leathers
he was stopped and talking to a normal (marked) police bike
near Narbethong

the tricky one was the unmarked car ...a Silver SS Commodore
(sunshades hiding the lights on the rear shelf)
the giveaway was the gixxer he had pulled over...
the gixxer passed me ...doing just a tad above the limit...

We have full leathers here, with padding in the normal spots. You can also chose to wear those silly horse riding pants if you want.

That's bullshit that they aren't provided with top protective gear. Poor bastards. Doesn't matter how good your training and skills are, accidents can still happen. Just doesn't seem right that they aren't being given the gear for their job. I would think that would be a major OH&S safety issue and lawsuit city in the event of a major accident, that could've been minor if proper gear was provided.

Oh well. I guess it's better to funnel money to vote-buying activites *cough*baby bonus*cough*, rather than look after our coppers.
