why is that Pinhy? you scared of the power?

I reakon the current shape will be a classic that may even surpass the 748.

I think the 848 is the go - much better looking.

Too many people have the 916 shape, be different!!

Nothing inherently wrong with either bike. They are thoroughbreds though built to an Italian design brief. Longevity and reliability are not factored into this design brief of course and thus you have nothing but pure "Passion".
They are brilliant at what they do and how they go about it when they leave the factory - exception being the Sport 1000  - but be prepared to keep on top of its mechanical temperament.
As Strika noted there is now rationalised or agreed servicing costs that give an exact figure for the service plus worn or abused parts.
Perhaps not the best bike for Aus roads and any Japanese inline 4 would fulfill your needs plus a bit more for less money. The difference is would you buy a Commondoor or an Alfa?
Personal preference and mindset have to be factored into a purchase like this. I looked at the Sport1000s last year and I fair dinkum thought that it was sex on wheels and would suit my purpose when I read everything about it. I could even justify the cost. Riding it however gave perspective that it was the worst motorcycle I had ever ridden. No doubt
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ...Holy shit...What a ride!

I saw this Ducati too. It could be an alternative to the 748 or 848 you are considering.
Duc's should only be red, just like this one :)
