Ducati 748 or 848
Hey guys,
Need some help on deciding what type of bike to purchase
It is out of the ducati 748 or 848, i have ridden the 2002 748 and fell in love with it, until my mate introduced me to the 2008 848, i have not had the privilege to ride this bad boy as of yet.
I guess my question is does anyone know much about theses bikes, and if so are there much of a difference

Went off Ducatis many many years ago due to their expense to run
If I had to pick it would be the 748... anything that is based off the original 916 shape is a winner, the rest just does not cut it ......IMO

Re: Ducati 748 or 848
well the 748 is a classic... the 848 isnt yet... and it may not ever be... id say they woukd ride totally differently, and the 848 would have a heap more power.... i'd have an 848 over a 1098/1198, but only if you paid me to ride it...

Re: Ducati 748 or 848
Well it would have to come down to how much money you have, given the difference in value between the two........... then again if you are really considering either, you must have plenty of cash to throw away, so grab the 848................. If you want value for your money buy a Kwaka..........
this is a gee up isn't it

Re: Ducati 748 or 848
for the looks, I'd go for the 748, as Rob said that 916 shape is sex on wheels. If it's just the base 748 though they're not all that flash, I was going to buy the 748r years ago after I sold my Aprilia, the R models have all the light weight internals + ohlins all round I believe, the engine spins up amazingly quickly for a twin, Ended up buying the 03 636 instead and never regretted it, if I had the choice today, I'd buy the 09 zx6r
Cheers

Re: Ducati 748 or 848
You do know where you are don't you??????
Seriously though. My only experience with these was a mate called Fongy who bought a 748 and mechanically and reliability wise it was the greatest heap of shite I have ever seen. The thing let him down so many times and Ducati were so poor with the warranty he eventually sold it, took a massive loss and swore never to buy one again.
Having said that they look nice. Before you buy it ask whether a guy called Fongy ever owned it......

Re: Ducati 748 or 848
i have ridden both, (crashed neither
)
the 748 is a nice bike, i rode an S, so it had a bit better options than standard, which i thought for the $$ it was still lacking a bit (suspension-although setup to the specific rider, could be one hellofa ride). i liked the low down power but i aslo missed the high revving jap workhorse of an engine. For the price they are and what they offered i ended up buying a jap600
i have since "got rid" of my jap600 (honda erm) which then i test rode a few bikes, one of them an 848, mainly for shits and giggles. Wow what a bike, its got the low down power that keeps on chugging to the higher revs which i liked, has no problem with making the front wheel light (not that the 748 struggles).
The main difference is its handling, it was great, but like all ducatis i have ridden the harder you ride them the better they felt, when cruizing around they felt like they were forcing you to go more, which is a bit ofputting at first. But once you start to ride the carnt it responds with sweet sweet corner handling.
But i just cant justify spending that much money on a bike so i ended up with a kwaka 750 zeddy
yer its a bit different to my test rides but i wanted to know what the new bikes feel like. And i love the zeddys
so its up to you if i had the money to throw id go with the 848 mate. Although the 748's are plain sex. The 848 gives a much better ride
hope that helped a bit

Re: Ducati 748 or 848
I'd only ever own a Ducati which was still under new bike warranty. Buy the 848 (it has rationalised servicing costs too) and sell it before it runs out of new bike warranty!!!

When you come to a stop and pull the clutch in, if it rattles like it's broken, don't buy it
Seriously, lot of money for what you get, and quite probably a very big step from a ZZR250.
