Exhaust z1000 07

Post by jimszx14 »

Sorry for yet another exhaust post. I want to get a new system for my bike. All I want is a nice sound and a nice look, I don't need any more power. If I get a full 4-1 Akra system, ill I do any damage to the bike without a PC, I just don't want to spend the extra money. I did that with my ZX14 had more power than I needed and lost a fortune when I traded it in.
On the exhaust question I can not quite understand why I can get a system from ebay delivred to my door from USA for about A$1500 and I have to pay $3500 here without delivery.

If its over $1K you will pay duties when it gets here, they are already included in the other price ;)

try buying the headers & tail pipe as seperate items , this should take each piece to under 1k, but make sure they invoice them seperatly.good luck. :kuda:

Custom duty is 5% and then GST is 10%, it is still a couple of thousand dollars cheaper than retail prices here. Interestingly enough the govt gets you all ways, if over a $1000 you get charged 5% custom duties then you have to pay GST on the product, custom duties and postage. In relation to splitting the product so it is less than $1000 the customs webpage states is you get multiple packages from the same retailer they will combine the costs. Actally their wepage is good info for purchasing off the internet.

Long story short re pricing here versus the US - market share, multiple people needing their cut of the profits, huge freight costs, crappy dollar value, etc etc etc. I still believe we get ripped but not as much as some would think. I used to import very expensive guitar amps for a living (Mesa/Boogie) and the only thing that kept us from being slaughtered on ebay was the power issue (110v v 240v) and the weight of the stuff made freight a killer.

Don't worry, I still look over seas to compare pricing but and buy here if the price is not too much different (IE 20% or so). But 100% or more, no way!!! I'm looking at pipe for my wifes new ER6F - $900 from my local dealer ship (no discount even though I bought a bike from them, fark it!) v $550 landed here. Now that's worth going o/s in my opinion.

Back to the pipes - the Akra system will be killer on the Z but you will more than likley need some mapping done via a PC or such, so budget that in.

As for trade ins, I just traded in my Busa and I was told that they would not give me any more $$ for the extra bits, so I could take them off if I wanted. So I did. Just hold onto all of the original bits and when you want to trade up tell em that the bike comes stock and spend the time putting it back to stock then sell the bits, more $$ in your pocket. I also think the changing over of bits helped me get over trading in the bike, as I get pretty attached to my things, so returning it to normal just made it a bike, not MY bike. Weird, I know.

Anyway, post pics when you decide to do something!
