Riding with unlicenced riders / people on unregistered bikes

If you are not at fault you will not have to pay an excess for your comprehensive insurance and your own CTP will cover you for your injuries. If it is your fault you won't be covered by CTP anyway and you will have to pay an excess on your own comprehensive insurance. It only matters riding with an un-rider if you don't have insurance yourself. My biggest concern is the lack of experience and the higher likelihood they will push things and do something stupid since they are more likely bigger risk takers.

so that does that mean KR1 and NSR's etc etc are legal, but not RGV ?

KR1S and Aprillia RS250 are not learner legal in NSW don't know about other states.

Well, after all is said and done, it looks to me that riding with an un-rider is not a huge deal, in terms of consequences to other riders.

Not true, you're assuming everone's got comprehensive insurance, but those of us with $3000 bikes and third party loose out because of the actions of th UN.

So you either risk being victim to the UN, or pay the extra for the comprehensive even tho it's not worth it, and then have to shell out your excess for the privelage.

I'm really struggling to understand the acceptance of this.!
Its really simple..
If you are an unlicensed rider, you are not welcome on any ride posted on this site.!
If you are riding an unregistered bike, you are not welcome on any ride posted on this site.!

I would also frown on,
Riding a bike your licence doesn't allow you too (if your not covered by insurance, ctp min, then move this into above category)
Not having any insurance (3rd party should be a minimum.!)
Riding a bike in shit condition.

Not that I ride on the road a lot, but it is really quite simple, if I find out that a person I'm riding with is either unlic or on an unregoed bike, I'll go my own way, others can do as they wish, thats their call, same as riding with someone that's not insured, sorry but I head off on my own. If its a ride that in the unlikely event that I have organised than that person simply not welcome.
It's as plain as that as I see it!

Putting some things into perspective. To those who say they won't ride with an unlicensed rider knowingly as you are concerned about your safety. I agree that you wouldn't them to ride with you however and this is where I am looking to add perspective -

Do you ride with people who intentionally do wheelies, speed, go knee down on the road etc?

I haven't been on a group ride at KSRC so can't comment on them (I haven't got a Kwaka anymore, but don't tell anyone). I tend not go on them too often unless I know the person organising it or if I am the one organising it. I used to organise a monthly one on another forum and am starting to organise them again on different forum. Stopped doing them some time ago in part because there were people who either felt compelled to keep up or race to stroke their ego and some just rode like complete dicks and after having to ride a blokes broken bike back because he didn't think he could (we swapped bikes to get home) I just didn't want the responsibility of leading adults who couldn't ride to their ability.

I tend to mainly ride with people I know fairly well. Some of these exceed the speed limit, but having done thousands of kilometres with these people they have earnt my respect so I don't have a problem with it by enlarge.

Does this really happen a lot? Perhaps i'm just naive here but i never realised it. Of course i thought there were people out there who did it, but i thought it was more a rare case.

Unregistered/uninsured causes problems for you when they crash into you, as Hoffy has stated.
Unlicensed causes issues as most of the time they can't bloody ride. Then they crash and you have to wait around for the tow truck/ambulance which just stuffs your day.
Also if you happen to crash and need the ambo or cops, I bet your un-mate is not going to stick around to help you out.

I'm glad here the view is to encourage everybody to ride within their limits on bikes they can handle and obviously be registered/insured and licensed.

A little story for you:
A guy I used to know was encouraged by his mates to forgow getting a license and buy a 1000 fireblade without any experience at all. First couple of rides he arrived home in one piece. Then next he was travelling too quick into a roundabout and didn't know how to brake properly, locked up the rear brake and crashed. Two broken arms and a broken ankle. Bike cosmetic damage. Mates rode off as they were unlicensed and didn't want any grief from the cops. He copped a huge fine and also suspended license(car) for 12months and had to get one of his mates to wipe his arse for him for the next couple of months, and guess what, it wasn't one of the mates he was riding with. After he healed up his mates again encouraged him to get back on the bike. This time he went straight through a blind corner and decapitated himself on a fence. His mates left the scene again as they were unlicensed still. He lay dead in the paddock till morning until a passer by found him.

BTW I would not ride with him or his mates and tried to get him to do the right thing and get a license first, get an appropriate bike, and after the first crash sell the bike. But unfortunately I couldn't convince him.

There are heaps of people out there riding and driving unregistered vehicles. The cops get heaps of them when they use their number plate scanners, unfortunately the cops seem to be more interested in catching people speeding. I know when I'm speeding on the bike I am far more aware of my surroundings than when I'm doing the speed limit on the way to work in the car listinening to the radio and eating maccas. But that's a whole other subject.

I'm with Cath and MadKaw too - but then I'm very sensitive about who I ride with these days even beyond the UN factor.

I will say though for those of you on the OPH rides - the postie is fully registered with CTP, but it's not (yet) further insured.
If you don't like that stay out of my way and I'll be happier for it

I ride in groups a lot they are all mad and there are Un,s with us all the time, unlicensed unreg wrong size bikes unroadworthy and unresponsible, but i ride to the conditions and my abillities,i think this is a v good subject for disscussion but most of you have gotten of the topic and talk about accidents and insurance, i dont know about anyone else but when i get on a motorbike(even when i get in a car)i dont think about accidents or insurance at all, i ride to have fun and what happens happens.
