wow
that would be a *lot* of fun .....maybe its the way of the future ?? You know, with sports bikes only appealing to the race-pensioner crowd.....
the factories should take note !!

Re: We Breed "Em Tough......down at Anarchy Road !!!
OK punters, its well past update time for this bike - so here are some photos of the latest developments in Laurie's *Dirtbike From Hell*.....
Most of these mods have been completed during late July/August.....
As per previous posts, I have included Laurie's own write-up from CanberraRIDERS
".......This just turned up today, latest spec ohlins pressurised steering damper, aaaaaaahhh Ohlins goodness me......."

"....Just finished laying up the seat base.Looks like it should workout ok. Used massive amounts of masking tape to form the front part of the mould. Just layed strips across the frame under tension first, then across to the fuel tank then across ways under tension again, formed a nice smooth curving surface upon which to lay the carbon on....."

".....I have layed two one piece sheets of carbon down upon the mold and once cured and trimmed to size i will have a look at the stiffness of it and may need to lay some stiffening ribs upon the underside....."

"....The seat base is basically finished, just need to get the foam for the seat shaped etc....."

".....Just finished laying up the rear tail cowling, just needs rubbing back and painting. Now whats everybody think of the look of the rear.I know it looks rather phalic and that wasn't intentional although i expect this bike will excite me
It kinda unbalances the look of the bike, but its unique, looks like no other, and has a clean uncluttered look which i really like......"

"....I am also experimenting with fitting the zx10 tail light/brake/indicator assembly which is a simple bolt on/off affair,as i want to keep the bike streetable and kinda legal....."

"....I was a bit concerned about the long-term durability of the frame especially when landing from those double and triple jumps(YEAH RIGHT)
.
Anyways i was looking at some early press release photos of the 04 zx10 and noticed the engine mount design was different. The photos must be of a pre-production bike and for whatever reason Kawasaki changed the design, but the nice thing is they kept the original attachment points.
Notice in the pic a long shiny engine mount between the cam cover and the radiator......."

"....so I easily welded up a new mount using those mounting points for minimal extra weight and lots of extra strength....."
Before

After

"......HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!..Got the dirty 10 up and mobile. Feck its got some stick, power monos with out even trying, which is good and bad.
I am running some very low gearing at moment, a 17 front and 48 rear, stock is 17/39. Still its faster in first gear than a crf450r is in top gear.
Its a bit savage with the throttle response, very undirt friendly.I think a power commander might help that with a bit of detuning. At some stage i will look into fitting a heavy flywheel on the crank if possible. Earlier in the week i received the rear suspension link which i designed for it, made up a set of dogbones and in she went. The suspension is feeling pretty good for a first stab, may need a next rate up stiffer rear spring......"

OK, thats a fair old update on the progress so far................but wait - there's MORE !!
Oh yeah, as we speak,...............the YouTube footage is being uploaded.....
I was over at Laurie's shop today, to clean up all the wiring around the ignition switch / handlebar switchblocks etc - basically just shortening all the OEM harness so its a lot neater and out of the way. Got all that done.....and then Laurie took the bike for a spin in the driveway.........
- I also had a short blast up and down the concrete, fuck me this thing has a lot of poke for a chookie !!!!
Some more work needed to complete - the upholstery for the seat needs to be completed, and also some new triple clamps are needed to get a reasonable amount of steering lock - at the moment its a bit tight ......
I will add the footage of this bike as soon as it is uploaded to You Tube - stand by !!!

It should look pretty much like a real dirt-bike. Thats the plan.....Gazza wrote:Awsome Gos![]()

One thing I did forget to mention, apart from the seat needing to be upholstered with the current 'flat' style of MX seat - which should sit the pilot up a few inches higher in the middle and be quite comfortable

These will hide a lot of the front section of the motor, and will clean the look of the bike right up.
