Changing bike colour
re: Changing bike colour
It's not that hard to pull it all apart, I managed to the the engine out of mine in a couple of nights, and I wasn't rushing things.

Its not the pulling apart that worries me as much as the putting back togetherMick C 98ZX9R wrote:It's not that hard to pull it all apart, I managed to the the engine out of mine in a couple of nights, and I wasn't rushing things.

I know what you mean...I was so glad when I got it back together and didn't have the leftover "where does this bit go?" parts on the workbench

re: Changing bike colour
We know someone who has just repainted his ninja don't we........
I took great pleasure at swearing when you get solvent boil, overspray and other paint problems......it's all good fun and makes you feel good when it all comes together.
Think about it, if you go stock again you gotta buy replacement gen stickers, ouch!
If I was you buddy, I'd strip all the plastic off yourself (too easy),find yourself a seat in the garage and a bucket of water with a little washin up liquid in it, get yourself some 800 wet and dry and if the panels are undamaged, wet sand them until they are dull all over.
Then have a drive around a few small paint shops and have a chat with the painter and see if he can do you a good price on painting only, try and by pass the bosses, when they see it's bike bits they wanna screw ya.
Paint wise, I'm in love with the 10r orange, and to trick it up even more you could get a gold pearl over the top, I've seen and orange 9r in a post around here somewhere and they look sexual.
Do it in 2 pac base, with pearl in clear and 2 pac clearcoat over top.
1 litre of good quality paint, around $120-$150 and your topcoat $50-$75.
I reckon you do a bit o work yourself url get change out of $500 all up with ur painter.
It takes a good painter hour tops to paint all the 9s plastics.
I know someone that can supply you with a cowl 4 formentioned 9 aswell........
Good luck.
ps while its apart you sort any probs and give it a good service and clean before repanelling.

Just thinking...for $385 you could buy a Haynes manual and some tools/accessories/beer and do it yourself...

re: Changing bike colour
The paint that changes with heat sounds just the ticket for your 9R,
If your gonna go for something different, go for it!

Okay, first of all, why do I get the distinct impression that you guys are painting your OWN bikes vicariously through me? Some of those paints are absolutely amazing, but I really can't see them looking right on my motorbike.
Secondly, I am in fact doing all the prep work myself. My dad has a friend who does really good paint work for a living, who has agreed to paint the bike for me and purchase the paints for a total of $400.
