You have to control the instinct to stiffen up when you panic.
Rubber arms and relaxed.
It's bloody hard to do at first but it will come with time.
You way I look at it, if your going to stack anyway you may as well have a bloody good go at getting around the bend :kuda:

I was actually taking the straight bits easy as it was around midday and lots of cops hang around the park! I just came to fast into this corner!

One of the biggest things I had drilled into me as a newb and still sooooooooooooooooo newb, no matter what corner, always set up for the corner as if it's a tight corner, if it's not you always have the choice of accelerating out of the corner rather than braking mid or panacking if you see the centre line coming towards you, this I was taught by some very awesome experienced riders on this forum. Another awesome place come and ride with some of them on Sunday up the oph, I have learnt my biggest amounts of cornering there by the best riders out.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

As there is no such thing as a good crash, this ranks as a good one in that unlike the last time I think he has actually learnt something from this re attitude. Now I think he will ride within his limits, the first one hurt and this one was even a bit scarier I think from the possible outcomes that could have occurred. One thing I haven't been able to determine from Dmonkey and his mate who came off a fornight ago is their closeness to the edge of the road when they come off, they seem to understand positioning of their bike on the road but yet when they get into bother they are on the edge in the crap and nowhere to go.
I appreciate the help other members provide on this site and it makes me very happy when I advise someone to come here to get assistance ith their riding etc it come in the proverbial bucket loads and with no bullshit and just a little bit of humour :D
Now we just need to repair the beast again and get him ready for Gingers Creek, the Island and the Smowy ride.
Having now experienced what is like to have a novice rider close to hand I think they should seriously look at getting trail bikes because at least there is a lot less to damage on them when they go down than a fully faired bike and they go just as well on the road as a tofiddy roadbike, or in all seriousness invest in a set of crash bars.
If life is like a box of chocolates, why do I always get the laxettes?

Others have said it, or almost said it, but I'll repeat it - the important thing is to look back on the accident, self-analyse, and learn from it.
Sounds like you're doing that DM which is great.

You survived it, are learning from it, will get training, and so will improve.

I came off a couple of times on my GPX250 - both due only to doing something stupid. I'm one of those who tends to learn best from making mistakes, which isn't necessarily good on a bike, but I don't think I'm the only one ;)

You're looking back on this with the right attitude I think - kudos.

The only reason you crashed where you did is because that is where you looked. If you had low sided then you would have been lucky, fact is you aimed the bike off the road. Yes you panicked once you got there which made it worse but it was your vision or lack thereof that got you there.

Typical theme here? Yes there is, vision. As others have said look where you want to go not where you don't, sounds simple. Well it is the problem is we as humans easily develop bad habits. The further you look along the road the more time you have to react, if you are only looking at the bumps in front of you instead of as far through the corner well then you can only react to the bumps directly in front, this is one reason why rear enders in traffic are so common, instead of looking past the vehicle in front we concentrate on the vehicle in front and only react to it instead of what is 2 or 3 cars in front of that. There is a thing called the vanishing line, the point where you can not see any further through the corner or along the road, this should be what you are constantly adjusting your vision to be looking at, this way you are giving yourself the maximum time to adjust to your surroundings and more importantly as you are looking where you want to go you will more likely go there.

Personally don't over analyse it as it will do your head in, you made a mistake most likely because you weren't looking far enough through the corner, saw the middle of the road and said I am going too fast so went where you looked. If it was a low side or a high side then you could analyse it some more as this could be a reflection of riding style, road, speed etc. I would keep riding where you are familiar this will get your confidence back which is really important as the more confident you are the more likely you will look further ahead.

I remember an instructor who gave this advice, if you can't pull your bike up in the available distance you can/ are looking then you are not in control, now I don't ride to that rule but it is a good point for newer riders.

As the saying goes, you survived that means you get another go.

Good luck and don't worry about it too much.

Thanks for all the advice guys, have only really had the oppotunity to flick over the responses have been busy the last few days
But will definatly have a good read of them and take in all the advice everyone has given me!
I Really like seikos advice find a strech of twisties and do them over and over again.
I am also much like TY i only seem to learn from my own mistakes unfortunatly! I know its probably not the best way to learn, im just lucky i have come out of my mistakes in one peice and hopefully i have learnt enough to prevent any more!

I don't know if i'd be staying away from the nasho for a while as you suggested, your only going to get better at it by getting more experience in there. I did alot of riding through there while i was on my L's and P's and i fucked up a few times, even had a little slide down the road, but i didn't let it stop me from riding through there. As everyone else has said, learn from your mistake and try to approach the ride with a smarter, wiser head on your shoulders.
This beer is making me AWESOME!
