Workshops putting stickers on your ride

the chain guard is probably the least offensive place for it to go, but I'd be annoyed about it if were someone I was using for the first time.

Balls did this to my bike first time I had ever been there, on the old CBR. One sticker down each fork leg, one on each side of the frame and one on the rear hugger. They were the absolute bastard to get off stickers, and my custom painted rear hugger lost paint to the sticker - I was mightly pissed. They also screwed up the service and the bike broke down on me next day beacuse of it. They were lucky my wife persuaded me not to burn down their workshop.

Got them to fix the bike, and bad mouthed Balls Performance at every oportunity. Apparently this didn't go down well when Mr Ball died

Oh well, oops.

Not had a problem with it thus far, though i must admit i do most servicing myself and i suspect that the look of any of the bikes i (have) own(ed) would be something that any respectable dealer would wishto avoid.

Couldn't care about the sticker as long as they did a great job on the bike and not have things go wrong after the service. Me I do all servicing unless it is specialised or I dont have the correct tooling. Don't trust your average bike mechanic as it is not there bike and lets be honest bikes are time consuming to work on & the work shops want to get them in & out ASAP.

I'd hate it if someone put a sticker on my bike. thats my choice to do, NOT theirs!! If they want to they should ask to. Its not their property after all, this makes it vandalism. It would be just the same as me rocking up to their shop and spraypainting my name all over the window!!

I agree... not cool to put sticker without permission...

Even if you were totally happy with service... it's about the same as when the mechanic
decides to do 5 other jobs that weren't agreed to beforehand,then hands you the bill...

That's happened to us before... totally pisses me off...

I don't care what kind of sticker... if you want it on my bike... ask or piss off !!!

It sounds like I'm not that out of the ordinary on this issue...
The last five services were done by a local shop, who charged *a lot*, but also did a great job. I was happy to pay a premium for the convenience and the excellent results. The last two services however, were crap. I gave them a chance, but once the second service was shite, I figured I'd take my baby somewhere else (especially because I had a pretty good idea why it was shite and the new set-up was staying, so why bother paying top dollar when you know the quality isn't what it used to be).

I was tossing up between two different places to get the service done, both relatively inconvenient.

A friend recommended this shop so I thought I'd try them. No pre-existing relationship with them at all. The funny thing is, if they thought they were getting some good advertising out of it, they're idiots. Because now, instead of raving about the shop and giving them some positive word-of-mouth (I was very happy with the service quality, the customer service and the price), I've got a bad taste in my mouth from them having the gall to put stickers on my bike. I will probably not recommend them to anyone, simply because I don't like the sort of attitude or mindset that thinks doing that to a customer's bike is ok. Next service (which is a major) I'll try the other shop I was thinking of taking the bike to.
And after that, I'm going to at least do all the minor servicing myself (with help and advice from the Pit Team, of course).

So, I guess the sticker they put there worked really well for them

I just thought it was funny that I don't give a shit when they put the sticker on the car, but I literally felt a surge of white-hot rage when I saw it on my bike. (sidebar - knitting is excellent therapy for anger management! I haven't punched anyone since I took it up ) I guess the difference is because the car is a shitbox that I don't care about and the bike is my baby that I adore. And you don't modify my baby without my permission and expect me to be ok with it.

Thanks Six Addict You didn't notice I was purposely not making the workshop name public???

If they had've done a shitty service, or done something really wrong - I would have no problem naming names so other people could avoid them. They did a great job on my bike, for a top price and with good customer service. It was only the sticker that annoyed me. In fact, without the sticker, I would be telling lots of people how happy I was getting my bike serviced there.

6 Addict, dude, it's an over litigious society we are in. I now know of two boards that have been taken to court for slander due to members saying either a) lies or b) telling the truth when it wasn't working in a positive light for the target (what actually happened in both instances, as slander here in .au doesn't have to actually be something untrue, unfortunately). Even though the first came to nothing in court, it still cost the first site owner *thousands* to defend his name unnecessarily. The second is only in the process of receiving a summons this week.

I may be a bit paranoid here, but could you do me a favour and nix your post as i'd hate to have that number bumped up to three (if this board is included that would make 2 i visit day to day).
