Which new naked
Hi Guys
anyone have any thougts on a 1000cc naked bike, experiences etc between the Z1000, FZ1N Triumph speed tripple or Monster?
Time for a new one, that is more comfortable than the duck to ride in traffic and not putting the ZX10R race bike on the road.
At the moment I have tested the Z1000 and found it great but I've booked in for test rides on the others on Friday.
Cheers
Mark

Not sure you will get any recommendations for other brands here
... but ride 'em all and it's your dollars you are spending.

I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

Re: Which new naked
Depends on Money?
Plenty will get you lookin at
1078 MV Brutale
Ducati Streetfighter or S4R
K1300R BMW
Aprilia Tuono
Then comes the rest
Kwaka Z1000
Speed triple
Honda CB Yuck
FZ1 N
SV 1000
Personally having ridden some of these the most bang for your buck comes in the form of the TRIUMPH...personal opinion only. The new Brutale is suppose to be unbelievable?

Re: Which new naked
If you are gunna buy a 4cylinder screamer get a super sport style bike IE ZX10R. If you are going to buy a naked, the absolute BEST naked i have ridden and for looks also is KTM SuperDuke.
That hugely powerful mid range V-Twin is farken awesome! The sound is awesome the styling is farken sick streetfighter look.
Overall the rideablity was the best, handled like a dream, comes with all the good gear, good suspension, good brembo brakes, super comfy. Its just such a good bike to give a good hiding too.
from all the sports bikes, (including the 09 R1 i rode that same day) it was just about the MOST fun bike ever!
Just give it a go, add it to ya list cause i can guarentee you will like it!

Re: Which new naked
The SV1000 can no longer be purchased new.
The FZ1N and the Z1000 would be the choice, although you would be suitably impressed with the speed triple also, but it will cost you about $3000 more than than the other two.

The street fighter and Brutale are more than I want to spend, a friend has a super duke and I didn't like it at all, felt like a dirt bike even after a couple of hundred kays in Tassie, but he loves it. The Z1000, FZ1 and Speed Tripple sound slike to ones to look at.

Re: Which new naked
It was 3 years ago when I did the rounds and ended up with the Z1000. I didn't try the Triumph but the Monster, SV and FZ1 were no where near as fun as the Z. I knew it was the bike for me as soon as I took it for a test ride as it was a better riding position and went better than the rest of them. You will know which one suits you and your riding style best when you have tested them all.

Re: Which new naked
Having owned an FZ1 and an SV1000n if you want out and out grunt the FZ1 will leave the others behind. I test road the Z1000, so close to buying one. What stopped was the fact that the FZ1 was the same price and a better bike in my opinion. The major differences were the power and how smooth it was. The Z was a sexier bike by far but had real vibration/ buzz around 8000 rpm which I didn't like.
Fact is with Nakeds the suspension is shite and the FZ1 has a tendency to run wide when powering up on exit. The rear shock is so useless when I had it Oran the back would squirm all over the place under power. I am told that the Z has a better suspension package for upgrading but stock it is crap as well.
If you want styling go the z, for power and it had some serious power go the FZ1. It will leave the z in a straight line like you wouldn't believe, I really did enjoy the power.
Would love to try the triple as they are meant to be a sweet motor.
Instead of Naked bike have you thought about getting "comfort bars". I am getting a set and fitting them to my GSXR750 hopefully this week. Full kit gives you everything you need to put wide bars and raisers on most sports bikes to give you a similar position to the Naked. The reason why I doing this is because I was sick of crap suspension on Naked bikes, yes I could have spend up to $2k fixing it but why bother the chassis is still poverish.

Re: Which new naked
i would have a look at the new CB1000R. From the reviews i've read of it, it's a bit of a hooligans bike and has a fantastic motor. If i had the coin for a new bike and was out to buy something naked from '09, then that would probably be the one.
Also they have a massive quantity of extra blingbits you can buy for the bike from carbon fibre front fenders through to sculpted seats and performance exhausts.

Good call that Mike, I considered one of those Hondas but they were still a way off when I was buying and I heard they might be expensive. Do we know what they are worth?

Re: Which new naked
Not sure why you'd bother with any of those choices when you could have a ZRX1200 for feck all that would do all that and be heaps more fun!!!

I am unsure of where your getting prices from as the Speed Triple is about the same now as the Fz1 and Z1000

Re: Which new naked
At the end of last year when I was looking for anothe bike the FZ1N was $14300 ride away, the speed triple was $17000 ride away, and $14900 for the Z1000, if they are different now I'm not sure, but that was the price in DEC 08, sure its out of date, but thats the prices I got from the dealers.Ticketyman wrote:zx6rider wrote:The SV1000 can no longer be purchased new.

EDIT: to add, the Yamaha dealer had an FZ1S on the shop floor for $12990 + ORC, maybe they just had excess stock to get ride of?
