What are my options????

Post by Tinman »

I have moved to East Hills and where I live is to far from the exchange for the adsl+2.

I'm on a optus wireless which takes 10years to load a page cause of the shit service around here.

They have optus cable but it's only on the other side of the street.

Big pond wireless would go pretty good here but the cost for it is way to expensive

Does anyone know a better option????

Cheers
Thien

P.S. Will write up a race report when I get this sorted as it takes 10 - 15 min loading up a page and that if it does disconnects while surfing the net :x

tpg have coverage in east hills, altho it is the furthest from revsby DSLAM, you will be getting speeds of around 2600kbps on ADSL2+ where you could be getting 17000kbps if were you closer.

I used to be with bigpond cable for about 8 years, but finally decided to switch when i could get 140gb per month for the same price i was paying for 12.

I'd consider iinet or tpg. I mean stuff it, your at least able to get sync and reasonable speeds that is faster than ADSL1. There's NO point trying to use wireless unless your forced to (i.e. rats ATE your local exchange trunk) as, as you said, service is horseshit in your area.

Personally i don't give a damned what my service link speed is, as long as it works, and works well. I just checked my net profile and my link speed was set to "adsl 1 compatible" so 8mbps, even though im under 1.5km from the exchange. Just pushed it up a notch, lets see what this baby can do.

You are not that far from Revesby exchange, considering it also does the other side of the river, Voyager Point, Sandy Point etc. I am twice that distance from my exchange and I have the odd problem but i'm 99% happy with ADSL......

Telstra call centres are in the market of taking phone calls not solving customer problems, so try them again and if you don't like what you hear, hang up and call again, and again, eventually someone will solve the issue....... If you can get a connection, then do the install request online and then once you have it and a reference number ring up and get improvements etc via the call centre.... The issue is there is not enough copper wire in the ground and Telstra won't be putting more cables in the ground, but I reckon there is always enough for one more.......... That's how I got mine. I've had it for years and my neighbours are still waiting and being told that it is not available in my area.

I ended up going with TPG for ADSL2+ with VOIP - so far it's been excellent. Reliable and fast, the VOIP works a treat - very happy with it.

Prior to that I was on Vodafone Wireless - total crap. Dropouts every night, slow and unreliable - was tearing what little hair I have out.

Much happier now :D :D

try going with internet that fixed to the ground, before you go with a telephone company for internet, the excess charges on the telephone internet will be enough to take your soul.
Plus hard line internet is much cheaper and you get heaps more DL.

If you can get Internode go them, otherwise TPG or iiNet otherwise AAPT aren't to bad, go with Telstra as LAST resort

If you want cable ADSL rather than wireless, you will probably need to go to Telstra first, as they own the network and don't like giving it to other ISP to make money off........ It's OK if you are in a newer area where there is plenty of spare cables, but in older areas Telstra are not spending money on upgrading, so they keep the cable for their own customers.... They won't admit this though....

All this info for you Tinny, and no Internet connection to view it
