 nice one Ado....

Jamie - the first thing that popped into my head, was that old mate who wrote that comment was probably worried that he might hook up with a chick who rode faster/better than he did !!! We have a couple of chicks down here who are really competent, fast riders. They are great to go riding with, and lots of fun to go drinking with.

The bloke who wrote that comment, is just concerned that his manhood might be threatened......

How ya been anyway ?? :kuda:

Please be honest, I'm really curious - I would have thought riders would have loved a Mrs that rides?!? I promise I will not get dark at anyone's answers, if you'd like to PM me instead of posting publicly, please do.
I already know all the reasons women (people in general) -should- ride, just curious why one should not? :?
I just don't understand :? J.
Don't really understand this either as I personally find someone with a feminine figure squeezed into leathers pretty umm, nice (ok, hot/sexy/phwoar/yum/arooooogah). Most female riders have self-confidence in themselves and their riding ability and I also find that attractive.

My guesses?
* Maybe he has children that need taking care of while he gets out for a day of freedom.
* Maybe he doesn't like independent self-confident women.
* Maybe he feels threatened and his tiny male ego wouldn't handle the strain of admitting his partner was a better rider.
* Maybe he has NFI and needs slapping with a wet fish.
* Maybe he prefers men in tight leather. Oiled sweaty leather with arseless chaps .

Anyway, beats the crap out of me. FWIW I lived with a woman for 20 years who suddenly (well suddenly to me anyway) decided she preferred women to men, and me in particular. What I am saying is that I may have no effing idea :). I have never been lucky enough to find anyone that rides that would also put up with me so I can't say for sure. The women I have met who have been single and riders have all been looking for something other than someone my age/height/atheist outlook/obvious physical deficiencies with three kids and a screwy ex. I can understand this, who'd want a 45yo short arse atheist single dad?

Actually my current partner Glenys doesn't mind these drawbacks. She is a really lovely lady but she doesn't ride, never has, and has professed no desire to in the intermediate future. Seeing there's now four children in the house it does limit my riding time severely as I don't think it's fair that I am out and about while she is stuck at home looking after our kids. I will keep on working on her (figuratively speaking) and in time she may become a pillion in a million but I am 99.999% sure she'll never ride.

I don't really get it either, I find most females who ride damn sexy.

Damn straight, and I think this also goes for other stuff which would be considered "out there" for the ladies to do, scuba diving, parachuting, martial arts, etc

make this a poll, put me down for the fish option!

Wonder if he also doesn't like women who are intelligent, fit (or fitter than him), are better in their chosen fields, who earn more.... ?

I think it would be great to have Mrs that was into bikes and riding there own!

I think this guy might not have very good communication with his better half. May also be protective of his girl and not want to expose her to the shenanigans that goes on around bikes! :?

I find that my girl has no problem when i say i'm going out for a ride with my mates. She understands that its my time. She don't ride, but is very keen on the 2 up situation once I'm on my blacks! She loves it!!!! And ill do everything in my power to get her at the controls of a Kwaka :kuda:

It is really important to me that my girlfriend rides. My last five girlfriends/potential girlfriends have. I spend so much of my life riding that if she didn't I wouldn't spend much time with her. Much as I like having her as a pillion, most of the time I prefer her to ride her own bike. :D
If she was a smoker though I wouldn't be interested. Met a stunner a while back, who rode and was awesome. Couldn't stand the smoking.
Got a mate who won't go out with girls who are bigger than him (intimidated!!!!) or who hae a big nose (!) I guess it is up to the individual. Girls on bikes? Luv 'em. 8)

There's a lot of sex appeal about a women in leathers, if she's got all the right bumps in all the right places and especially if she has her own whips and cuffs.

But seriuosly, we can all have an opinion, but we need to look at what nature intended. Women were born with smaller feet than men. This makes it difficult for them to change gears and apply the rear brake etc... On the other hand though they can get right in close to the kitchen sink and the washing machine without chipping a toenail. I think it's not good to toy with nature..... and also if my misses rode, who would have my dinner ready when i get home from my ride....

You won't catch me, cause i've already started running.........

I've got a male friend who said he would not want to go out with a chick who rode... two parts to that... the "me" time thing, the riding is his thing to do with his mates, and also if he went out with a chick who rode, then she becomes mates with all his riding mates, then when the relationship goes sour it's difficult with all these mutual friends... I think that was his point (it was discussed after many bourbons).

I can sort of understand... I don't think I'd like to go out with a boy who didn't ride... with how much of my time is devoted to riding, how could he get me if he didn't ride? But I can also understand having the "me" time as well... I wouldn't always want my man tagging after me everywhere (though then again maybe when Mr Right eventually turns up I won't want to be apart from him or some such crap....:D)

Maybe he's just not into girls who ride? I don't find that very surprising, to be honest.
People have a huge variety of tastes and preferences when it comes to partners, for a whole range of reasons, conscious and sub-conscious. And some of them are deal-breakers and some don't matter in the right person.
seraph wrote:I already know all the reasons women (people in general) -should- ride, just curious why one should not?
This sounds like you've applied this one persons preference to all women (which is a one-way trip to crazytown!) He said he didn't really want a chick that rides. That's a completely different thing than saying women shouldn't ride...

Maybe you're actually wondering why someone would prefer to date women who don't ride, rather than wondering why women shouldn't ride? If so, then you would have to ask that person, because he'd be the only one to know his reason.
For example, I'm sure there's plenty of blokes who don't want a chick that's *really* into shoes, but I bet he doesn't think that no women should be into shoes - it's just his preference for a partner of his, not his opinion on how all women in general should be. And his reasons could be anything from childhood trauma with a shoe ;) , financial, stereotypical, anti-fashion, anti-too-girly, he could be a shoe-hater, or it could just be a mild dislike that he ignores when he falls head-over-heels with a shoe-lover. Who knows. Plus, there's probably quite a few blokes out there who would like a chick that is *really* into shoes. For a variety of reasons - again who knows why? Doesn't matter - it's just a preference.

What is wrong with women who ride? Nothing at all
What is wrong with women who don't ride? Nothing at all
Why shouldn't women ride? If they don't want to
Why wouldn't a guy like a girl who rides? Who knows - could be any reason under the sun.

I know I have some weird (to some) preferences when it comes to blokes. Most of them are just preferences, not deal breakers. None of my preferences have anything to do with what blokes in general should do or be - I'm great friends with a bunch of blokes who would never blip my radar as a potential partner and I *like* that about them - they're friends after all, but on the other hand, I married a guy who violated most of my preferences (except the deal breakers).

So, to sum up: People are weird. Their preferences can be weird. What someone likes in a partner can be totally different than how they view the general public. Oh, and people are weird

nothing is wrong with it at all.

I must admit I probably wouldn't be riding if it wasn't for being married to a motorcycle addict - but even if i wasn't riding I still don't see anything wrong with women riding.

Each to there own.
Jus had never been on a bike until she met me.
She then went everywhere on the back of mine until she got her own bike.
Now the kids have put a stop to that...

I like my partner to have similar interests.. preferably mine.. :-)

One thing I will say is, I did worry when she went for a ride on her own....

& that goes both ways, The keeper doesn't like me racing :( luckily she's not too fussed about regular road rides, & with trackdayz I have to call in regularly to keep the peace ;) .....this is from someone who is fairly impartial to bikes.
As for women riders ...... There is not enough! & definitely nothing wrong with women riding 8)

Many guys are insecure and chicks that ride may be intimidating to them. Other than that he might have some draconian ideals of men doing dangerous activities while the women stay at home looking after the house and family. Personally, I think it increases the allurement.
