 Farken revenue raising disguised as safety improvements...... Taken a few points off for a few minor breaches and up the fines on eveything......

Bikes didn't miss out either........ I know most people wouldn't ride without a helmet, but we've all done out the front of home testing out something or getting the water out after a wash......... don't get caught without one, especially during double demerits or with pillions ........... :( :( :(

I'd like to see "4 or more unhelmeted passengers on a motorcycle".........

I'm glad to see the points for minor/accidental speeding go down it was stupid that 1-30 had the same 3 point penalty.
I've also got no problem with the fine increases for 20+ - I'm happy for the govt to charge that much for speeding.

Not saying I'd never speed that much (in some places), or that I haven't - but I'd take it on the chin if caught. In most cases 80+ in a 60 zone is stupid (except the OPH - but we're all careful there now anyway).

Trouble is the the law doesn't differentiate between built up areas and rural areas where they think there is money to be made by rediculously low limits. :(

True - but I think that's a different argument.
What the speed limit should be for a given road, and what speeding fines are are different questions.
Yes local governments may take advantage of the state's fine legislation, but that doesn't change the fact (in my view) that the new demerit rules are fairer than they were.
I'd still happily argue that Gosford council SUCKS for lowering their section of the OPH to 60 (and less).

EDIT: though it means the postie has some chance of keeping up on DD weekends ;)

It's funny how they lower the points and then increase the fines even for the ones they didn't decrease the points on

And that surprises you...We all know its not about road safety...$$$$$$... well I suppose they are going to slug us some how and at least fines are elective...

Ohhhhh no no, no surprise here  I know they have no regard for road users safety, it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$ & more $$$$$$$$$$$$
they make people(mainly young) stay on their P's longer for the money in upgrading your licence to the next stage but yet have no driver(cage) training whatsoever before they go on the road, their parents teach them who were taught by their parents and so on.
Bikes are a different story but still relatively the same, you go do the same training as before (7hrs for learners & 8hrs for P's), they(stupid governments) changed the law and no more additional training just longer licence restrictions, if they were concerned about our safety, driver and rider training would be mandatory before you are allowed on the road, a min of 2 weekends @ 8hrs each day would be long enough to teach new riders/drivers the basics of how to control a bike/car and familarise themselves with the thing that can kill them.

sorry rant over :kuda:

peace out :kuda:

the points thing, that was a LONG time coming. However i am curious to see how vigilant the cops will be towards the lower speeds. Especially with the whole ADR & speedo inaccuracy mumbo jumbo.

The problem with your scenario is that requires long term thinking which doesn't get you elected in 4 years. The problem is if we had more driver/ rider training which most agree would be better for all road users you would have a greater number of people failing the system. Where is the problem you say. Well the problem is you would see a lot more working class not able to drive and thus rely on public transport, the only problem is where most working class people live is out in the suburbs where public transport is at best hopeless. So now you have burgeoning problem, people without licences are also unable to get to work so now they are on welfare, crime rates go up, less revenue etc.

Also consider this, if there are less people with driving licences, there are less people with cars, thus far less revenue for regos and licences etc. The flip side is public transport costs money it doesn't make money, so if you have more people requiring public transport then you have to spend more money to move them.

See it it just better to alter the demerit system so people can keep their licences and continue paying the fees.

Don't blame the governments though as this is the problem with people and we choose to live in a society where we want to have a say or least believe we have a say by voting every 3 - 4 years, if your lively hood depended on getting elected every 4 years how would you act?

Thats wat thye need to do is start upgrading the public transport system. Make it easier for people to use to commute with. No reason why we still can't have cars, bikes etc etc, but for many jobs many people could and should use public transport!

$84.00 Fine and 1 point you guys are doing ok i dont think the vic government knows how to count under $100 ;) In fact all your fines are less than here in vic and we also have less tolerance and bigger dickheads ;) The only real good thing they have done is to keep footpath parking :D
