A new addition to the family

Post by Mel »

No I haven't replaced the nine already... this is an addition! :D

As some of you know, a couple of weeks ago I went up to Sydney and picked up a '95 "white" model TT250R (yes a Yamahaha  but I wanted an electric start and to not pay much money)

Image

Got her home (well to Gos's place, close enough) and Saturday was our first day out :D though it didn't quite go to plan...

A bunch of us from Canberra Riders went out to Larbert which is a property out near braidwood where you pay $10.00, sign an indemnity and you can go riding pretty much anywhere on their property, including through the sand mines.

Got the bike going (eventually, had a flat battery - cheers to all the boys for the efforts in getting it going!) and took off for my first ride since it was MINE. Had an absolute ball, just some easy trail stuff then going around the gravel bottom of the quarry (while watching the boys do the hill climb stuff). Loved every second of it. Got back, it had sprung a little leak, we thought it was fuel as we'd overfilled it before. So James hops on, promptly nearly loses it  and on his way... come back and it is leaking oil at a reasonably rapid rate. Pull off the sprocket cover and find the culprit... Bodgy Bros. Inc repair job with putty has given out.

Image

When inspecting it I had had a good look for any oil leaks and it was fine so I can only guess that it's had a good run this weekend and just given out (it was certainly not clean when I inspected it so it hadn't just been cleaned up!)

So now the TTR is happily marking it's territory at my place next to the 9, awaiting repair. Put out a request to findapart and have found two replacement crank case covers already (only sent it yesterday) so will probably get that and then figure out how to get the new one on there .

Image

I love my TTR!!!!! :kuda: I can't wait to get back out on it, though I have realised, I have no real interest in hill climbs and stuff like that, I think I just wanna ride like I ride now (but maybe not so far) but on dirt so I can see even more places :D  (I reserve the right to change my mind on this of course...)

Very cool 8)
You are seriously my long lost sister, mate... It's a little bit scary. I've been thinking about that sort of thing off and on lately!

Good to see bigger pics and great to hear you enjoyed it, until it got a bit temperamental. Hopefully once it's fixed and back out there, a youtube vid will surface of you guys playing in the dirt :kuda:

It's a little bit funny, this is *exactly* the bike I was looking for when I first got my L's, I wanted a road trail, but could only find kick start in my price range (if only my enquiries back then had picked up the TTR250!). I've been thinking about it off and on for years since then, last time I seriously considered it, I didn't actually really know anybody else who had trail bikes so thought it would be dumb to go out on my own and bought furniture instead  Actually that time it was a TT600 I was looking at so the bigger version of this, though I've got to say for now I'm very happy with the 250.

Got three responses for replacing the crank case cover from $110 to $140 so far so I think I'll go with that option most likely :D Not that I know if that is really reasonable or not

There's plenty of trails we can go on up in the Brindi's Mel, that don't have much in the way of big hills to go up, just some nice corners you can get a feel for the bike with, and some really nice spots to go look at....I just need to get organised with some time to head up there ;)

Looks good Mel, and dirt riding teaches you heaps that will help you on the road - like what to do when the front lets go.

I'm seriously considering something myself, but between building a house and the fact that the kids want dirt bikes too, I've got some more saving to do.
