OPH speed lowered, AGAIN

Post by mike-s »

Taken from another forum, who pinched it from advrider. Reports are of lengths of the road north of the Hawksbury lowered to 40km/h (no that was not a typo, FOURTY KILOMETERS PER HOUR), if you do go out there and this is actually the (absolutely bullshit) case, please consider yourself warned.

New speed limits in the Old Pacific Highway
This morning I had to visit a customer in Gosford so I decided to take the OPH, something I havent done in a long time.

I remember when it used to be 100 km/h and then when it went to 80 km/h the first kms. and 60 the rest.

From the Berowra truck stop to Mooney Mooney is was today a mix of 80 and 60, but after crossing the bridge I found this:
picture link
I was going to turn around but when I stopped to take the picture I noticed the sign looked brand new, no dust or grime. So, out of curiosity, I followed the road and a few km. later I found a van installing them.

Now long sections of the OPH are 40 km/h and the rest 60 km/h. In a couple of places you'll find a sign advising you to take the next turn at 45 km/h. 20 m. after another one with a speed limit of 40 km/h

It was so difficult driving at 40 km/h (you have to pay more attention to the speedometer than the road) that I guess it will be a long time before I repeat the experience.

Oh, and I also saw two police radars.

Careful this weekend if you decide to ride the OPH, where not long ago it was max 80 Km/h you could now loose your license for 3 months, 4 points and $621. And I am sure it is going to be 'collection weekend' for the police.

Kind of explains why i haven't gone down that road in over 6 months. That is, combined with the fact it' a pain in the butt to get to.

I'm glad I got the tracky. That's absolutely ridiculous but then as a copper once said to me while he had me pulled over. Everyone who crashes up there incredibly does it at the speed limit, of course  so therefore they just keep reducing the speed limits.

To everyone who's binned their bike on the old road...... Thank you, you have created this.........

Yeah what Rob said - just a couple of sections (for now) and while they are/were fun corners there are plenty of others.
And Paul - while it'd be fun the postie won't help much, brakes still need to be applied :D (at least in the downhill direction)

If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

it's one thing being caught at 80kms in a 60km zone but 80km/h in a 40 zone is a loss of licence. I think the winging is justified!! :?
