Time to ride from Cronulla to Townhall [Peak Hour]

Post by DMonkey »

So i am working out if i will ride to work tomorrow, i need to arrive at Townhall by 8:30 at the latest, i don't wanna lanesplit, and not to much cutting! Not really ready for that stuff... Maybe later lol. Does anyone here do that ride during the week regularly and be able to give me an estimate time i should lave to arrive at work on time! Or even part of that ride the busiest parts will be from the start of grand parade in Brighton from when i worked in mascot then all the way along the ED and the city!

i live on botany. Give yourself about 30mins from the airpoort to town hall at least if your not splitting. I do this run to work a couple of times a week. Time will be saved if you stay the eastern distributor instead of going through surry hills, but this will incur the toll

Thanks mate! Hmmm so that would be about 1.5 hours cause it used to take me about an hour to get to rosebery i might still drive/train this week and leave it till next week when i have early starts (start at 7:30 and finish at 4) hopefully miss a bit more of the traffic ease my way into the mentalness that is city traffic lol!

The slowest part of the journey is when you hit George St. I commute from Oatley to Pyrmont and it takes anywhere from 45mins to an hour, dependant on traffic, weather, etc.

I used to do the Oatley to Wynyard trek and would probably allow 1 hr 15-30 if you are coming from Cronulla and not intending to lane split. :)

Hahaha im sure I will be to knowing what I drive like :P
I also move over to give bike riders who lane split more room lol
Been doing that for years, my opinion is if they have a bike why shouldn’t they... Its not inconveniencing me at all!
I mean we deal with the fumes and weather to ride! Not to mention the stupid drivers already had 1 chick nearly hit me I was about parallel with her front passenger window when she decided to change lanes.... i broke and honked to her credit she was very apologetic at the next set of lights when her friends told her what she did... Hopefully that lesson will teach her to look first and save another motorbike rider that may not react as quickly as I did...

The hours difference from 7:30 to 8:30 would make all the significance in the world. When i worked in the cbd the only reason i used to ride in when working lates was when i wanted to gtfo really quickly after work. I never bothered if i didn't have to go anywhere in a hurry.

However when starting early you'll get there quicker just from arriving in the city an hour earlier= less traffic. but you could probably knock an extra 15-20 minutes or more off your trip by being on the bike. Not by lane splitting, but by being more maneouverable and being able to get around any traffic logjams a lot faster.

Also be mindfull that the free bike parking fills up *insanely* quickly in the city. Personally i think its worth finding a place close to where you work and park the bike there for a discount. When i worked on Market Street i used to just use the parking at the School (St Andrews i think) as that was a fraction of the cost of parking a car.

I work at PWC so there is the Massive area for bike parking right in front of my office and there is generally always spots there even during the day...
Yea i think my first ride in will be Thursday this week got a 10:45 start cause i gotta watch champions league in the morning and if it goes to extra time i would never make it to work by 8:45 lol!
