Insurance:What to declare?

Post by Disco »

Was just wondering what type of modifications need to be declared before voiding your policy?

Eg:Slip-on is ok but full system need's to be discosed etc...

Cheer's Dave....

If in doubt I declare. Not much use taking out cover and then have it void because "you didn't tell us about that". I like to do it in writing (email) if taking cover over the phone that way if the agent forgets to write it in you can prove that you advised. If you get rejected because of mods then at least you know and can remove if you need to or find an insurer that will cover your mods.

I'm with Phil, I tell them exactly what has been modified , so when it comes to repair, I get it back.
Might cost more but hey, I get it back. Depends on who you are with.

I was surprised to find that a full alarm system didnt reduce my policy at all.

However I did sleep a lot better.

Bit hard to do that when either in hospital or the bike is never seen again.

Declare if you want it replaced, they can't void a policy unless it makes unroadworthy.

An illegal pipe, undertail etc does not make it unroadworthy only can be defected as it does not comply with road regs.

Some modifications will increase your premium as they are seen as "hoon" accessories.

If you ever want to see what gets insured go to a insurance auction like Manhiemfowles (spelling) and you will see that most modifications are okay.

Insurance companies will do everthing in their power to not pay, you opening the door by not declaring accessories means that they have an easy out. I'm pretty sure they will use the "well he didnt tell us about that so what else is not as advised" theory......

Just my opinion but I stick by what I said earlier - I declare everything that way there are no issues.

And no Dave, I have never had anything knocked back.............wait till I get the 1224 kit in the ZRX

Same as everyone else said, declare it and you'll get it replaced. I managed to get a few things that I didn't have declared once because a) the aftermarket was cheaper than the original, b) the guy doing the repairs backed me up with some of it being an "optional extra" (i.e. the Track Day Kit that they handed out with the '05 Crims), and c) I was standing there talking to the assessor while he did the assessment and he was a nice guy.

I wouldn't count on being able to do this again so I've declared everything now.

Declare it all mate for two reasons a) you want it covered and b) you don't want to give them excuses to deny a claim. Some of them get funny about PCIII's etc and the last thing you need is to giove them an easy out. Chances are it won't cost you any extra premium anyway
