A straight piece of road may seem harmless but they are usually the ones that catch you out.
Too true.

FWIW St Johns use ex-RAV and MAS ambulances. The ex-RAV units are big, heavy and powerful (we have a 4.5t GMC light truck with a 6.5litre turbo diesel V8) and they have had a lot of people come to grief in them as they drive like a big car and have a quite a bit of poke but handle like a bucket of shit because of the ambulance module. I did a defensive driving course with St Johns a couple of years ago, which was reasonably boring as it was all theory. However it was probably worthwhile as it sets out to question most peoples' perceptions about driving and their own ability, which is ALWAYS overinflated.

According to the instructor, a pretty straight up ex-cop who used to train MAS and RAV crews, the most dangerous bits of road are long open stretches of country road where people think it's open season and there seems to be nothing that can get in the way. According to the statistics that's where you're more likely to come to grief, not in town and not in heavy traffic, but where you feel you least likely to have a problem and you relax.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.
