Aprilia
Hello boys and girls!
Has anyone here ever owned or ridden a Aprilia RS125? They seem like a pretty bad ass leaner bike. What do you guys/girls think of these two strokes?

Pretty sure you can still register 2 smokes.
The RS250 isn't learner legal though I think - only the 125 (too many horses)
Sorry Kev, I haven't ridden one.

If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.

Hey Kevin, are you thinking of upgrading?
And what's happening with your bike at bikebiz? Fixed? Running well?

Re: Aprilia
I would hope you are small in size as they are not big bikes. I would hate to be riding one on a windy day.
Like any two stroke they are more prone to mechanical work and less longevity. Sound great but tend not last as you need to work them pretty hard to get them moving.
If I was about 30kgs lighter I would love to have a fang of one though.

Re: Aprilia
Aprilia makes some wonderful bikes but....
It takes retarded amounts of time to get parts when something goes wrong. 6 odd weeks or more without a bike isn't my idea of fun.

Re: Aprilia
Kev I owned one for a year & raced it in BEARS then registered it to sell, we were offered a special deal from John Sample group for BEARS racers only. The bikes are awesome on the track .... the corner speed is insane & the handling is razor sharp straight out of the crate
as far as the road goes they are a pain in the ass... slow off the mark & bloody uncomfortable... its a race bike
The dilemma with parts is a big issue Farking expensive & unobtainable at the best of times & second hand bikes are probably running engines thrashed within an inch of their lives... when they go its normally in a big way
.... put simply stay clear unless you are patient & have lost of money to spend on her.

Re: Aprilia
I own an RS250, great bike, but... you definitely want it as a weekend/fun/spare bike only.
They aren't that small the screen is taller than a ZX6R but a lot narrower when your sitting on it I'm 80 something kg, 175cm tall and have no problems on it. You will find there's no *power* below 4000, and it will feel like stalling if your not slipping the clutch to move off, but I haven't stalled it yet.
Maintenance wise your looking at rings every 5-8000km, piston and rings every 10-16000km and cranks every 30000km, for a street bike depending on how fussy your are. Add other consumables as well. But if it's a fun bike then it could take a while to get the ks. To be honest smokers get a bad rep for reliability, they aren't that unreliable every bike will have little problems and they sure don't seize for no reason!
With smokers you will love and hate it at the same time when your riding them, it doesn't hurt to try one out. But the prices of some RS125 are nearly the same as a RS250...

Re: Aprilia
Agreed, the 250's are not too bad service wise but you have to remember the 125's get thrashed twice as hard... its the only way to ride them & that in turn is why they are not a good prospect, all it takes is a sloppy previous owner that did not regularly service / top up the oil & she's a potential money pit

Re: Aprilia
i was thinking of either keeping the gpx and using that for a start off as a track bike and just kill it or get a zx2r. might have to look into it

. I'd stick with the gpx if you weren't bothering with looking to the track.
