Newcastle to Melbourne for a swap
Melbourne and back to Newcastle on a zx12 with a dead battery
great fun clutch starting a zx12 5 or 6 times on your own.
was getting REAL desperate with last petrol stop in sydney. Filled up at a petrol station on top of a hill.
whereis puts it at 2057.2km round trip

Jeff's Z1000 was bought from a fellow in Canberra, but it was transported up here and dropped off at the house
1,200 km one way trip. We bought the Prado in Warwick 312km round trip.

Cheers,
Anne

Re: How far have you gone to buy a bike
When I was living in Rockhampton I hopped a plane to Brisbane to by my '98 6 and rode it home with about 5 hrs riding experience under my belt. I bought my crim in Perth but cheated and did the whole thing by remote. The down side of that was it needed $3600 worth of repairs when it got to me.
Real bravery is being afraid but doing it anyway.

Done Melb - Syd return in under 24 hrs 3 times now picking up a H-D, a Katana & a Suzuki Wetbike (!?!?!) Gotta love company fuel

Re: How far have you gone to buy a bike
Not as good as to Perth but in 2002 I flew to Melbourne from the Gold Coast early one Wednesday morning, picked up a virtually new ZRX1100 (2150kms on the clock) from a guy, had the oil and filter changed at the local Kawasaki stealership, was on the road by 1000. Got to Sydney (Hornsby) Wed night. Left about 1000 the next morning (had to do a phone interview for a job at 0900) and was back on the Gold Coast Thu night around 2100. If I count both ways, around 4000kms. Still got the old girl and she's a keeper despite numerous other bikes since then.

Re: How far have you gone to buy a bike
First was 30km, and i had to trailer it back home as it was a mess of a bike (i eventually got it working and then i managed to kill the motor while halfway up the M2, yay me!). Second was about 11km (bikeshop), third was about, uhm, 5km again (another bikeshop). Fourth was ANOTHER bikeshop, only 7km away. Fifth was up the coast, about 120km away, took a couple of trips and a bit of coordination to get that sucker back home as I had to get a bike freight company to take that unregistered bike back to Sydney. Last bike was an ebay buy, and delivered to my door. I don't know how we didn't kill ourselves getting that sucker off the rear tray of that guys ute without a ramp.
