Lost Number Plate Paradox

I went outside to stretch my legs before, and lo and behold, noticed my bike is missing its plate. So here is the paradox -

1) I'm at work
2) it's illegal to drive/ride a motorvehicle on the road without a number plate or paperwork saying you can
3) the bike is my only form of transport at the moment as the missus has the car elsewhere
4) I need to get to the police station to report the plate as missing (see #2)
5) I don't knock off until 1930 tonight.

It's not too much of a big deal as I have rung the local constabulary here and was told that "As long as I'm ONLY riding straight to the station on my way home, I could get away with it, HOWEVER......even doing that is against the law." So how do you win? If I get pulled over and tell them my sob story, the smurfs are still quite within their right to book me for driving an unroadworthy (?) vehicle. If I don't ride it I can't get to the police station (or home for that matter). There is no one here at work who can take me too and from work as the whole base is on standdown for the easter break and i work shift anyway. Oh, and the other thing I found quite interesting was, I can't report my plate as missing over the phone!!!!! So what that means, is anyone can get their hands on my plate between now and when I knock off and use it for nefarious business. Watch the news tonight, I may be on it Anyway, I just thought I would share my little conundrum as I thought it was quite amusing

Russ (Blurr) has a similar tale from the last oxley run, all you can do is ride the farker
Take note of the conversation with the cops... time, station, name etc write it all done & carry the paper with you as proof you did the right thing before riding without a plate.

I think I'd ride it, just DON'T SPEED!

And, even write the story up on a piece of paper quoting who and when you talked to people, what happened, your situation etc and keep it in your pocket while you ride

I don't think Mr Plod would appreciate smiling back at him from where the plate should be. Would be bloody funny though Good points with the writting down times, names etc, pity I didn't think of that when I made the calls Ahhh the best sight is hindsight

If you've got the time make the calls again and ask names

hahahahaaaaa sorry, didn't get the inference before, damn work interweb is slow as forrest gump today. i like the look of that. pity I dont have a full plate holder or I would try it

Couldn't you print up a big rego (paper) plate on a printer, sticky-tape it to a piece of card, sticky-tape the card to the holder and THEN go to the Police Station?

As long as it's the right number, your numberplate light is working and you're on the way there, wtf can they say?

Big font though, with no serifs. Try and get the thing at least looking like it's semi-respectable.

Not legal transportation of a vehicle.... ppl think that if they have that on there they can drive an unregistered vehicle to the nearest mechanic / RTA inspection station...... dont get caught or have a stack

Used to work many years ago.
Nowadays if you want to drive an unregistered vehicle to the repairers you can. no need for bodgy traffic plate anymore.

what do you do without any rego, insurance, CTP if you are in an accident taking said vehicle to the repairers? you are liable for the lot get a real good lawyer
It is not legal to do it .... the Traffic bit was used Pre CTP but was never real legal, these days you would be plain stupid to do it.... its just not worth the risk.
Mate got done a couple of years ago having "Traffic" on an unregistered trailer he bought & was only taking it home

must be a southern thing. i've never seen it in queensland, not on the south east and sunny coast anyway. queensland smurfs dont have much of a sense of humor either when it comes to strange things on vehicles.
