the bike leans just as much with your knees hugging the tank

Will you get into trouble for dropping the knee on Public roads?? I'm pretty sure anything that is Fun/Exciting is illegal these days....

Never heard of anyone getting in trouble for using a knee but the fact that you will look like you are going fast may draw unwanted attention, in saying that I have a particular roundabout that became somewhat of a challenge & was one day mastered & these days its common place to get the knee down without traffic about, apart from that & the occasional touchdown on the old pacific highway I hardly try with road riding.

Dropping the knee is about fun (I hear) and about leaning the bike less, not more.
If you put your weight into the corner then the bike can be kept more upright for the same turn, giving more grip.
But, you can shift your weight without getting your knee down.

Disagree there Ty, I have found that the Knee is more of a guide, eg going through turn 2 at the creek on a tightening radius the start of the turn is knee down then as the bike leans over more the knee comes in towards the bike .... I am already hanging off the bike heaps so I am using the knee as a guide as to the point of no return eg knee close to the bike but touching the ground. Getting your whole body off the bike causes less lean angle not the position of your knee.

there may not be a point to it, as a matter of fact i'm quicker keeping the knee up on the road. but the Ti sliders make for some farking great photo's and vids

Officially, the knee is there to guide you. if there is a specific lean angle where the front slides out, then the knee should touch down 0.5 of a degree before that. When the knee touches, don't lean any further.

However, many poeple now see the draging knee as a bragging right/pose value. However, in my world this fails when doofus riders round the corner with a knee on the floor and other riders at the same speed on the same corner go round without a knee down.

Me I reserve the knee down stuff for the track - occasionally

Mike read my post, I am no expert but with a tightening radius corner your knee is pushed closer to the bike so the theory of knee down don't lean anymore is out the window.
The example used was Turn 2 at EC I can have my knee down just on entry to the first apex then keep it down throughout the second apex which tightens & therefore you lean more whilst bringing your knee in towards the bike to suit.
