It will be an eye-opener for Gen Y mate, but as a cutting-edge Gen X'er, I grew up with this stuff - I think most of the posters in this thread are in the same boat......
Old music is like a time-warp I reckon.....can take you back to the *exact* moment when a particular song was heard, or a memory of what you and your mates were doing at the time.......as a perfect example here is a song I will never forget hearing the first time....I had just moved into my first flat as an 18 year-old, having left home for the first time. My flat-mate was a good mate from school, unfortunately his girlfriend was in Year 10 at the local high-school just down the road.... - and she used to bring some of her friends around to our flat. One Sunday night, one of the chicks had this small portable radio-cassette player ( about as big as a box of Cornflakes ), and she says ' heh listen to this, I got it from my friend who just flew in from England yesterday....' - well we had never heard of this band, but they ended up being a signature band of the early 80's in every way......its impossible not to hear this song and be transported back to mid-1980, with a heap of schoolgirls in our flat, all bouncing around to the weirdest music we had ever heard of.....back then !
".....shut the gate on this one Maxie......it's the ducks guts !!............."
This girl is sensational........... sadly, she now has MS.....
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

Now here is a song that's not even *remotely* a classic - but it does have a video clip full of hideous skanky bitches. Thats gotta be worth something !!!
This song always dragged the chicks out at our local watering hole here in Anarchy Road back in the early 80's.....Cap'n Greggs.

Joe Satriani might have something to say about that..............and a few others. Slowhand is a great guitarist.....but the best ever ?? What about Jimmy Hendrix ? Or Jimmy Page ?? Slash ? Eddie Van Halen ? Kirk Hammett ? Steve Vai ? Yngwie Malmsteen ? What about Chuck Berry ?? There would be no Slowhand without Chuck..............Hell, even Billy Gibbons was rated by Hendrix as the greatest guitar player of all time....then there is Duane Allman, BB King, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan.....I could go on for ages.
Let the Guitar God wars .....BEGIN !

Go Benno !! That song is just a nightmare on GH3 - tried it a few times, maybe get a minute if lucky before it all turns to shit...
and a classic selection from Dave3 as well.........gotta love the Gunners. I saw them at Eastern Creek with support from Rose Tattoo and Poison, back in the early 90's ?? It was a great gig - anyone here go to it ?? We got pretty hammered on cheap goey. It was fab !!!
Here is a song which may have slipped under the radar for a lot of members. Understandably so, it was considered *crap* in its day - but looking back now, the significance of the latest computer-geekery *fad* to hit Oz is inescapable.......complete with cheesy graphics, but a great backing soundtrack !!!
gotta love a game of 'Spacies'......

1.Hendrix
2. Page
3.Steve Vai
4. Eric Clapton
I would also rate Billy Gibbons if only for the women in the film clips George "Thorogood" spelling?? I did not rate him until I saw him live.
I am also a fan of Chuck Berry. "Johnny B Good" is a classic.
You could even throw in Pete Townsend, Dave Gilmor is pretty good too. The list goes on. and most are different to each other not better or worse just different.
Remember, half the people you know are below average.
