I was reviewing some cases at a work function the other day. In one a burglar who was shot by a security guard was paid $180,000 as the force was excessive and a 'reasonable person' would not expect to have someone shoot at them and chase them down the street in a hail of bullets. The burglar was still sent to jail for the crime, but was given the huge windfall as compensation so when he got out he could have all the coke & hookers he wanted.

Interesting application of the law.
I think you are referring to THIS The guy lost the money on Appeal from the security company, but now he is SUING AGAIN and this time for a 6 figure sum! Wankers like this are what tie up the legal system!

Don't blame the wanker, blame the system. Some dickhead lawyer is supporting him saying you are entitled to this.

They should start charging the lawyers when the case is lost instead of the individual, then see how many stupid law suits take place.

No arsonist can be considered innocent by any stretch of the imagination.
When a fire is deliberately lit in perfect conditions upwind of a populated area you can't tell me it's not pre meditated!! Murder? debateable , manslaughter ? definitely !!
Arsonists get off on the power of the flames , the more the carnage , the more the thrill ...
I put them in the same mental state of imbalance as rock spiders - Jail will only prolong the time between acts it will NEVER stop them from commiting again!!

An accident is one thing but an arsonist - like a fire - is an OXYGEN THIEF!!!

I'm sorry those of you who are bleeding hearts but tell it to the families (what's left) of the deceased ..

Oh and the prick who's been caught twice ripping off the VFA donations should be forced to do community service at the Kilmore / Kinglake etc areas cleaning up the mess and seeing the pain first hand!!

Red hot fire poker + Certain parts of the human anatomy. Then lock them up, and let all of the inmates know what they did.

at least then they wont be making little fire bugs
