Done it before for nothing for Mick when he was in Cochranes rd. If I was still only 2 blocks away I would definitely be there. Have had the offer and if it wasn't now a 150km round trip on retail hours then definitely, unfortunately I now have far too much outgoings and "alledged" responsibility.
Still they are a great group to be around and should anyone in the neighbourhood be looking then there are far worse gigs. It's a busy store with a loyal customer base. Mick is very easy going. Frank and Marley in the workshop are very thorough and ethical. Dave in spares knows more than most.
Besides the wages there are benefits to being staff. ;)

I think it is generally understood by those in the bike industry, that salaries are not very high across the board and that it's a job you do for the love of it, not the financial compensation. I'm not saying that's right or fair, just how it seems to be.

I can see it's very laudable Miss C, alas a 11-day fortnight job paying $35k a year isn't going to pay the bills, even if you did love the work and have cheap parts/servicing and cheap(er) new bikes than mere mortals.

I was in a metro hobby shop the other day listening to a pimply know-it-all 18yo trying to sell me 3 imperial nut drivers for (a mere) $100 and justifying the extortinate price with a "well you have to pay for quality" line liked he actually believed it. I pointed out to him I could get a whole effing tool set for that amount and he looked at me like I just took a dump on the floor. Nice to have such a tenuous grip on reality and a superior attitude, especially when I'm on the other side of the counter with the money. On the other hand I have dealt with guys that have been around for a while that will answer your emails and phone calls willingly and for that reason I will go back to the same guys, even if they are in another state and I have to pay postage.

...now give me back my walking stick and where's my medication?

Mick :?
