(from The Australian 10/02/09)

Article from: Australian Associated Press

TODAY was a day of relief for Healesville residents and firefighters defending the town, when good luck and weather kept raging bushfires away.

It had been expected the small town only 60km east of Melbourne's CBD, in the heart of the wine-making Yarra Valley region, would come under direct attack from the Victoria fires and it was placed on an urgent threat level with residents warned to watch out for ember attacks.

Simple good luck and cool, strong winds blew bushfires away from the town, Country Fire Authority officer Nic Rodway, who is helping run operations in Healesville, said.
