Victorian Bushfires

Post by mattyv74 »

Don't quite know what to say to you guys down there...

On behalf of the rest of the members on here, I hope you are all safe and well. I know we have a few members who live up that way.

For those of you who don't know about the Victorian bike scene, the most badly effected areas are exactly where many us (current and not so current Vics) have ridden literally hundreds of times over the years.
The irony is that both Marysville and King Lake are two areas the we all stop for a re-group, check that every one is safe and accounted for, a fag and coffee. These towns are lodged between the legendary Black Spur and Rheefton spur.

It has litterally brought tears to my eyes to see an area and towns that will always be home to me to so utterly oblitterated.

This is where Rob and I nearly killed a goat with fright, and then Rob nearly crashed due to laughter. The same roads that Dan showed us that loose and ugly can be fast. The same roads that Ardvark proved that cops really can ride. There are so many more memories...

All the very best guys.

For anyone who is directly affected, please know that the rest of our club's thoughts are with you.

Stay safe.
It is far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even if chequered with failure, than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, as they live in grey twilight that knows no victory nor defeat.

The servo at Narbethong has also gone - a great lunch spot for bikes at the top of the black spur. The owner is OK.

He left his servo to go fight the fires, no time to empty the till or anything he says, comes back to nothing...

Things like this turn my stomach upsidown. Best wishes to any and all affected by this. Our hearts & shoulders are always available (hey, more is available, i am quite sure).

All i need to do now is figure out if friends of mine from other mediums are all ok, a few have been a little close for comfort to all this.

The old guy I learnt my trade from, "Fossel" built his house directly accross the road from the Narbathong roadhouse. His place didn't make it. No word from brian yet.

Went up to Yea relief centre last night to deliver 4 Plasma TV's, 4 DVD Players and a Wii donated by my work to keep the kid's occupied, Video ezy also donated three boxes of DVD's.
I was surprised to see the Hume scorched at Kilmore (had no idea).
I spent an hour and a half talking to the tent city refugees and was also surprised to find them in good humour for the most part. (good old Aussie spirit) One of the guy's from Flowerdale was setting up his Computer to show all the others the State of their town.
One woman burst into tears because she saw her house still standing and the horses in the paddock because she had been told by CFA that it was destroyed. They were also told the Pub was gone but it is not! The guy on the Computer gave me the pics he had on a flashdrive but I can't figure out how to post them maybe because I've only had 3 hr's sleep

The company I work for has donated $50K as well as offering Diesel powered generator sets for houses and communities. We sell some pretty serious gensets. With the help of a trucking company we have been offered a truck to take donations of clothes etc to the affected areas.
My better half went to the Commonwealth Bank today to make a donation as well.
Remember, half the people you know are below average.
