Booked in for Wednesday.... snip snip

Post by Nelso »

As many of you know, I had a little mischief a couple of weeks ago that involved me getting to know a 4wd a little more intimately than I would've liked. Luckily I had all the gear on and managed to avoid broken bones or major organ damage, unfortunately the extent of bruising has caused the need for me to go under the knife to get it cleaned up.

Last week I had a litre of blood removed from a pocket under the skin but unfortunately it filled back up about 30 hours later. I met with a surgeon today and he has booked me in for Wednesday to get the blood and haematoma removed and a drain put in for 24hrs (to start with) so I should only be in overnight.

What is awesome (where's the sarcasm emoticon?) is that your green-slip doesn't cover you if you are at fault (even though mine claims to have at fault driver cover) so not only do you get slugged with a neg driving charge you also get the privilege of paying for your own medical costs. My naive arse didn't know this as I've never had and accident on the road so I was surprised when I was told this.

So I did get charged ($325), I will have to pay my excess ($500), my leathers are covered up to $1000 so depending on what I get I may have to fork out a bit more, and I'm up for another $300 to cover my private medical excess. Crashing has turned out to be quite expensive and I got off lightly. I think in future I'm just not going to crash anymore. Tinny, how do you do it so well?

So a couple of pics to show some of the damage to me and the bike.

Yeah, I've got a pretty good outlook on it really, despite my whinge. I know it could have been a LOT worse. In all honesty, if I had hit the front of the car I would not be here, so I am grateful for that. The thread on the Oxley run is fast curing my desire to delay road riding. It was always going to be just for a while until the points and wallet recovered but I'm so jealous of the past weekend I'm getting keen to get a roady again soon.

Like i said before mate, you're lucky you got away with relatively minor damage to yourself.

I'm sure you'll be back on the road in no time and i'm glad that the Oxley Run has helped ;)

The bike doesn't look too bad all things considered. That's a right shit that the at-fault driver protection doesn't cover you, but I remember reading the fine print on some policies a while back and coming to the conclusion that for a bike rider it meant SFA. Good luck on Wednesday - we'll have a beer at the Sawdust for you :)

OK, I had a completely different train of thought with the 'snip snip' when I opened this thread

Bugger about the money - but while it sucks, you can always earn more - body parts and functions are harder to replace! I'm just happy you're going to be ok once you stop leaking everywhere ;)

Same, was thinking the vasectomy myself, some nastry bruises there, but as you say, could be a heck of a lot worse off, gotta be thnkful down here for the no fault TAC scheme at times like this. Yeah we pay a safety levy but $50 is fuck all at times like this and we get free parking all across the state too.
A good mate will bail you out of jail, a true mate will be sitting in the cell next to you saying "Damn, we fucked up!!!"
