As long as the plastic is fully cleaned up before you even consider doing anything else, you get the glass cut up beforehand and you get the resin mix right, by all means. But if viable perhaps you should consider using plastex to join the two segments and fill the gap and THEN back it with glass to make sure you have the best of both worlds.

further to that, if you really need a hand i may be able to give some help if your not too far away, whereabouts in sydders are you anyhow?

ive called a few around, and most don't have it in stock. The two that DO have it are 1) Caringbah Motorcycles near the corner of Taren Pt road and Captain cook drive and
2)Racewear in Wollongong.

There may (and quite likely are) others, but i called a good half dozen places and most either didn't know about plastex, knew what it was but didn't stock it, or were plain not interested and told me to call another shop to try and find it.

It's pretty strong when used correctly and when bonding the correct materials (some plastic it does a mediocre bond with, others like bike fairings it bonds with fantastically and has the same flex capabilities as the parent plastic). I used plastex to fix the ducktail on my gpx750 six months before i sold it as the mounting lugs had cracked through on both sides underneath the seat and under the brakelight. The last time i saw the bike it was still going as strong as ever.

Personally though, if its an area that may go through a bit of stress and vibration/stress was a likely candidate in the plastics failure (i.e. fairing side panels can be classed like this, esp near the belly cowling) then in an effort to not have a repeat problem i am still biased towards glassing the plastic on the inside for reinforcement once the plastex has had 24+hours to cure properly

Give Caringbah a call before heading around as the last time i had planned to get some they were out of stock of the stuff and weren't sure when the distributor was sending them more. The last thing you need is to get there and THEN find out they'd run out again, just remember though, my last encounter was months ago.

Also if you do buy from Racewear they are extremely fast on their ordering and if you place the order tomorrow morning (Wednesday) then you'll have a kit in your hands by Friday afternoon.

If the cracks / breaks are clean ie a straight join then head to either autobarn or supacheap and get the 2 part sikaflex ABS plasitc glue. Around $12. The glue is specific for the type of plastic you are joining and will end up stronger than the parent material. Plastex is good if you need to fabricate small patchup areas.

They were a bit crappy the cracks so i don't know if it would have worked wobble's......Look's to be pretty strong but will get some cheap fibreglass to reinforce it from bunnings....At least it can go to paint on monday now.... :kuda:
