Trading in bikes
Hello guys,
Has anyone had any recent experience in trading in a 2006 GPX250? Like what price people are getting on trade in.
I see the going price for them privately, but wonder what the going trade in rate is, in case I go down that line. (knowing it would be different for different dealers, but just want an idea).
Seeing the private selles prices, compared to redbook, you'd say redbook is full of shit!!!!
I am not upgrading until after my Bali trip in May, but was just doing some shopping, need an estimated budget.
Any help/advice appreciated.
Cheers
Lisa

Thanks disco, going on redbook i'd only get about 2 to 3 grand for the bike, privately I will get more I think. I can't believe the trade in value on redbook.

Re: Trading in bikes
I lost $2500 on my GPX250R after less than 18 months. It had 11,000km on the clock and was immaculate. It's worth a LOT less than you'd think, especially so if the dealer knows you're interested in upgrading.
The problem you'll have when trading in is that the new bikes will have dropped slightly and you may find (like I did) that the dealer still has stocks of the same year/model as yours for a very-discounted price, hence making yours worth jack-shit.
The dealer in question burnt down the day after I traded mine in, so I'm guessing he had it coming
.
...I didn't have anything to do with this, purely co-incidental

Re: Trading in bikes
Trading in sucks... private sales are more likely to get you a price closer to what you want.
The world is round. It has no point.

Re: Trading in bikes
You have to remember that dealers will never give close to market rate as they need to sell it and make a profit. The only time you will get a good trade in figure is you are buying a really expensive bike at RRP or one with an over inflated sale price and they can them make the figures "look" better for you.
So yeah private sales are the way to go.
