A worm front tyre will go along way to exibiting the behaviour you speak of, but as The Hoff has said it it also to do with suspension setup . I'd try the tyres first and it if havent set the bike up for you with the correct sag etc thjat would be the next thing I do.

I can brake all the way to the apex with both my bikes no problem, I can also increase the amount of front brake without either of them standing up while heading toward the apex. That is all about getting the right setup :kuda.:

What I dont do - so I dont know if the bikes would do it or not - is go from no brakes to getting on the front mid corner, then it comes back to the brake before the corner scenario discussed in this thread earlier.

Another story all together, and as has been discused ad-infinitium, is the "riding the pace" topic - but thats a discussion to be had elsewhere.

Nah mate, I've got a ZRX and a ZX9. The ZRX's frame would not be as rigid and the forks are conventional 41mm units as opposed to to USD ones on the Z1000.

Why would you say that ttc ?? As I have stated a few times I'm just trying to understand "what is normal behaviour for this bike" before I put any money into it. As far as liking the bike is concerned, I LOVE IT but I bought it to ride hard so asking a simple question about the handling characteristics of the bike from those who have owned them a lot longer than me should'nt mean that I don't like the bike, Should it ????

Why? Because what you are doing you were told was dangerous.. and chose not to listen, and got nasty about it too..(nice way to make people want to help you )

I highly recommend you stop blaming the bike and do a braking and cornering course, they advise against using the front brake whilst cornering.. unless you know more than the instructors do .?? Maybe you should be taking the time, setting up your lines, and have all your braking and gear changes done BEFORE the corner.

Zed's were never made to be ridden incredibly hard, they're put together out of cheap nasty components, it's never going to handle as well as a proper sportsbike (well unless your name is Wattie or your last name is Doohan) Your front forks have suspension in one fork only, they're twitchy, and the rear end is like a pogo stick. So I suggest you sell it and buy another Honda.

I don't remember blaming the Z in anything I have said so far, and I don't remember getting aggitated over anything other than trying to get an answer to a particular question rather than get advice about riding style. Everybody I know understands you generly avoid using the front brake in a corner BUT THAT DOES'NT MEAN YOU NEVER DO IT and if you read what I actually wrote you wouldn't have made a comment about me not being able to take advice,or did you miss the bit where I thanked Wattie and told him I would try his advice ???? For your information I have done riding courses, and don't have a problem taking advice from anyone about riding techniques but, I DID NOT ASK FOR ADVICE ABOUT RIDING TECHNIQUES. As far as your comment about the Z not being well made and not meant to be ridden hard ?? I suggest you Sell the Z, it's obviously not the bike for you.

Worn front tyres tend to stand up a bit more too so I wouldn't get too worried about how the Z is handling until you've got a fresh set of hoops on it, otherwise you'll end up chasing your tail fiddling around with the settings

I thought pre load settings were pretty simple, obviously not for some !

In all seriousness Peter, have no fear , dont be afraid to play with the bike, its a learning curve and will help you understand what each thing does..

I'm not afraid to play with the bike mate,that is why I asked about the characteristics of the handling of the bike in the first place. It just seems like I started this thread by asking a simple question, which was - Does this bike stand up "MORE THAN MOST BIKES" once again "MORE THAN MOST BIKES" when using the front brake in a corner REGARDLESS OF WHO IS RIDING THE BIKE - and after two pages of advice I still haven't got a clear answer to the actual question I asked.

I'm not saying that it's hard at all mate, I reckon he should have a go at doing it too....but after he's got a fresh set of hoops on it otherwise he won't get an accurate idea of what effect the changes he are making are having.

If you read between all the riding advice, his question has already been answered by people who have had a Z1000....I'm not really sure what else needs to be said
