Operating Temperature
Hi,I am looking at buying a 2003 Z1000 with about 10,000km on it which seems to be in great condition but I was told by a mate that owns one that the operating temperature on a 30deg day should be around 75deg ? The bike I am looking at was running at about 86deg which I assume is nothing to worry about considering the engine is still pretty new but I thought I would ask you guys what is normal on a Z1000. Thanks in advance.

Re: Operating Temperature
Depends on what your doing, at the lights, cruising along or giving it the berry's..
but thats fine for normal to hard riding temp on a warm day... when stopped at the lights the fan should cut in at about 100deg...

Re: Operating Temperature
Same for the Z750.... the fan cuts in at 100 deg ...... normal riding sees between 70 & 80 deg

Re: Operating Temperature
Thanks MadKaw,I have owned a harley for the last two years and although I love riding it I am missing being able to get into some corners.I was only able to take the bike for a short test ride but it seemed like it will be a lot of fun in the hills. I'm just going through that paranoid stage trying to think of any might be problems before I hand over the money.

Re: Operating Temperature
There was aguy riding a 2006 Z1000 with me on the test ride and his was running in the high 70's but the engine had done about 20,000km so maybe it had loosened up a bit more than the bike I was on ??

Glad to hear that robracer,I can't wait to get into it. At 47 I thought I had put the sports riding behind me but I really do miss it.

Re: Operating Temperature
the Z1000 would be a very comfortable but capable bike (as paddo and wattie will prove) plenty of bikes that will give u a sporting ride without the pains of supersport bikes...

Re: Operating Temperature
well i am down in Hobart and most days so far are about 17c cause its summer. When i am riding around the Z is normally at about 70-75c on the open road. Around town sits around the 90-100 mark. Fan cuts in at 102-104c.
Cold days or nights 65c.
So the temperature will vary, but dont stress!
